ca.1900 Advertising Letter Card. Mint VF. Formular letter card advertising the "HOTEL DU LION D OR" located in AMBOISE (about 225 km southeast of Paris). Small internal crease on mailing side and slight discoloration in margins of mailing side (which is entirely due to the adhesive and thus natural at this point in time). Great image of the hotel area and the Chateau Royal d Amboise. Excellent quality for this type of item.

Scott #162 [1907 10c red Sower, No Ground] (VF) on the face of a very attractive 5 September 1909 color picture post card [French military combat engineer (the "Pioniere") unit operating a temporary, floating pontoon bridge with a soldier in each pontoon boat, with the legend translating to "engineers on maneuvers" or also "engineers in action"]. The subject of the card is rather unusual, showing extensive working soldier-engineers and a nautical / boats theme. From "LA SCHLUCHT / VOSGES" to VERSAILLES with receiving postmark the next day. La Schlucht is a famous mountain pass in the Vosges Mountains, connecting the valleys of Lorraine and Alsace, thus is an area of interest also to German collectors.

France Scott #571 pair, 602 [1946 20 fr Pointe du Raz, Finistere (Lighthouse); 1949 15 fr rose Marianne] (VF) on 22 January 1950 airmail cover from POINTE-A-PITRE, GUADELOUPE to CZECHOSLOVAKIA. The pair of 20 fr stamps was not canceled; I suspect that this occurred because there was knowledge (or doubt) by the postal clerk about the lack of availability of timely airmail service for this letter from Guadeloupe to Europe. Furthermore, there may have been doubts about postal service to and in Czechoslovakia, where in December 1949 and January 1950 there was political upheaval and violence due to Stalinization. Starting in 1947, Guadeloupe became a French Overseas Department and thus used French stamps and had postal rates the same as European France. No receiving postmark, but none was expected at this time. Excellent quality and with nicely struck cancellations.

Scott #C39, C40, 1232 [1960 5.00 Caravelle Jet and 10.00 Alouette Helicopter; 1969 Voulglans Dam and power generation] Used VF (C40 with one pulled perf) on 10 June 1969 piece of parcel wrapping, sent overseas (probably to the U.S.) by registered mail, from L. ISLE JOURDAIN. With registry postal label and part of customs label indicating weight. While the stamps are of modest value, uses on parcels (with weight information) for specific postal rates are quite hard to find.
