France Scott #571 pair, 602 [1946 20 fr Pointe du Raz, Finistere (Lighthouse); 1949 15 fr rose Marianne] (VF) on 22 January 1950 airmail cover from POINTE-A-PITRE, GUADELOUPE to CZECHOSLOVAKIA. The pair of 20 fr stamps was not canceled; I suspect that this occurred because there was knowledge (or doubt) by the postal clerk about the lack of availability of timely airmail service for this letter from Guadeloupe to Europe. Furthermore, there may have been doubts about postal service to and in Czechoslovakia, where in December 1949 and January 1950 there was political upheaval and violence due to Stalinization. Starting in 1947, Guadeloupe became a French Overseas Department and thus used French stamps and had postal rates the same as European France. No receiving postmark, but none was expected at this time. Excellent quality and with nicely struck cancellations.
