J8 [1874 24 öre olive gray Postage Due, Perf 14] Used F-VF but with a thin. An extraordinary example with BOTH SWEDISH AND FOREIGN POSTMARKS. Bears a 19 December (probably Göteborg) postmark and an full and complete EDINBURGH (Scotland) 27 December 1875 postmark. I am aware of two possible explanations: Either postage due stamps were incorrectly used to pay outbound postage (unlikely) and was accidentally struck with a Scottish receiving postmark. Or the letter originated in Scotland, arrived in Sweden with postage due, was refused or was undeliverable, and was returned to Scotland where the stamp was accidentally struck with a receiving postmark. Either way, Swedish postage due stamps bearing foreign cancellations are extremely rare and desirable. I have only had one or two other examples in 36 years.
