EARLY STAMP ALBUM LABELS

I have added to the website three pages showing hundreds of early stamp album labels sold and produced by/for Scott albums. These series of album labels picture Rulers, Flags, and Coats of Arms of the world.

These labels were created and sold by stamp album publishers for the purpose of placement at the top of the first page of each country in a stamp album. In the U.S. we are most familiar with those produced by/for (?) the Scott company and consist of Flags, Coats of Arms, and Rulers of the World; The first Scott advertisement for them that I have seen (I have not done an exhaustive search) is in the 1902 Scott Catalog. A quick check also showed similar ads in the 1927 and 1950 catalog editions. You can see those advertisements at the very bottom of any of the three pages listing the labels.

This type of label was often stuck into the albums of young collectors; they tended to tear them apart very roughly and then lick-and-stick them into the album. Examples with gum (even hinged) and in nice condition are very seldom offered! Spellings in my offerings are as shown on the label.

There surely must have been different editions / printings of these labels over the years, but I do not have any information on how to differentiate and identify different editions. While I am first aware of the labels being offered in a 1902 Scott Catalog, the group I have acquired came from an album dated 1935 and which contained no stamps issued later than 1945. All are with full gum, hinged, and in excellent quality unless noted as SD (slightly damaged). Such nice examples are very seldom offered!

Even if these are not the type of item you choose to collect, they are definitely worth seeing! And do consider obtaining the labels related to the countries' stamps that you do collect. Take a look at the Rulers, Flags, and Coats of Arms album labels. In particular, the Coats of Arms are really stunning!

WORLDWIDE STAMPS

In the Worldwide Stamps I have added a significant amount of "East Germany" (DDR / GDR), Samoa, and Solomon Islands.

In case you have not looked lately, over the last few weeks and months a lot of British Colonies / British Commonwealth stamps have been added. Links to each country are in the Worldwide Table of Contents.

There are also a several pages of Worldwide Collections at very low prices.

2008 FACIT SPECIALIZED CATALOG PAGES, BY THE COUNTRY

I now have available the 2008 Facit pages, country by country. These are genuine pages cut from a Facit Catalog. If buying the whole catalog does not make sense for your interests, you may wish to consider this possibility.

Some 2007 pages are also still available, at lower prices, so you can save even more.

For full information and ordering, please visit the Facit page.

2.  Norden 2008 Nordic Mythology Issues Complete the Trilogy -- In Stock Now Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
Starting in 1956, the Scandinavian countries have issued "Norden" stamps to commemorate their cooperation in postal operations. The Norden stamp issues have come to encompass all eight current Scandinavian/Nordic stamp-issuing entities. "Norden" stamps are issued only every few years, currently every other year. At first, the stamps all had a common design, but now they are different designs, but share a common theme.

For 2004, 2006, and 2008, the "Norden" countries have issued stamps on the theme of Nordic Mythology. For 2008, the specific theme is "Mythical Places".

Each of the 8 countries has issued a souvenir sheet; two of the countries also have matching regular sheet stamps issues. The eight souvenir sheets are available in a wonderful pack / folder (and of course individually too), titled "Top of the World of Stamps". All these are in stock, along with first day covers, maximum cards where issued, and official packs from Denmark and Norway. Many consider the subject to be highly interesting and the stamps beautiful. If you know of something that should be added to this list of items, please let me know.

Complete price lists of available items including the Packs, Souvenir Sheets, Regular Sheet Stamps, First Day Covers, Maximum Cards, Stamp Cards, Presentation Packs, Swedish Cylinder & Counting Numbers, etc., along with many more pictures, and ordering information is available for all three issues: 2008, 2006, and 2004.

[Click on images to see the applicable price list and more pictures, along with links to larger pictures.]

The 2008 Official Joint Issue Pack containing all eight countries' souvenir sheets.

The 2008 souvenir sheets from all eight countries.
Denmark and Greenland have again also issued regular sheet stamps as they did in 2004 and 2006.

[Note: Subscribers to my Scandinavian New Issue Service will automatically receive the items they normally receive for the respective countries, at the new issue price, when they receive their next sending. If you did not previously want or receive the 2004 and 2006 joint issue packs, but now want them, please be sure to let me know. If your new issue supplier did not supply these items, perhaps you should consider joining my Scandinavian New Issue Service.]

The 2004 and 2006 Official Joint Issue Packs.
Each pack contains all eight souvenir sheets of that year.

Regular sheet stamps were also issued by some countries in 2004 and 2006 and Denmark also issued a little-known set of two souvenir sheets in 2004.
All related items such as Regular Sheet Stamps, First Day Covers, Maximum Cards, Stamp Cards, Presentation Packs, Swedish Cylinder & Counting Numbers, etc., are listed on the price list pages for 2004, 2006, and 2008.

3.  Sweden Ladybug "Error" Stamp Makes Front Page of Linn's Stamp News Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

The vertical coil "error" stamp with horizontal perforations at top and bottom.
As you probably know, my 1 April 2008 E-News described and offered the Swedish 2008 Ladybug Vertical Coil stamp that was "unplanned" by the post office. Though it has been a challenge to locate supplies of these stamps (and some formats/items are on waiting lists), I still have most items available and am doing my best to meet the needs of my clients.

If you do not yet have this stamp in your collection, do not delay! This stamp will have a "major" listing in all stamp catalogs and it will have a spot in all albums. The longer you wait, the more likely you are to have to pay a higher price. I do not know of any new issue service (other than mine!) that is or will be offering this stamp. Go to the 1 April 2008 E-News and get yours today.

The editors of the largest-circulation American weekly stamp newspaper Linn's Stamp News read my E-News and they picked up on the story with a front-page article in their 28 April issue. The article quotes Sweden Post's information and my 1 April E-News.

If you are a Linn's printed-edition subscriber, as of a few weeks ago you are also now automatically an on-line subscriber at no extra charge! You can read Linn's and this article on-line. If you have not yet seen the on-line version of Linn's you should have a look -- it is very impressive and has a zoom feature for those with tired eyes.

Go to www.linns.com and login (if you have not logged in before you will have to follow their process to get a login name and password). Once you are logged in (not just on the Linn's home page), you will be presented with the latest on-line edition of Linn's. To see the 28 April article, click on "Archives" in the top menu bar and then scroll down that list to the 28 April issue. When the 28 April issue opens, you will see the ladybug.

If you are not a Linn's subscriber, you can still view a sample issue -- you will be impressed -- by clicking on the "View a Sample Issue" link at the bottom of the black box at left, below the login. Go to www.linns.com

4.  News and Notes Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

Recent days and weeks has seen the purchase of many collections sent by clients and estates.

One of the largest and most interesting collections is the Frank Nagy collection consisting of comprehensive and specialized Iceland, Danish West Indies, Turkey stamps & Turkish revenues, and Europa. The Iceland is especially strong in plate varieties & overprint varieties and Tollur cancellations. The Danish West Indies is quite comprehensive. Iceland and DWI want lists and/or a description of your interests are invited. The Turkish stamp and revenue collections are quite strong and really fascinating with many interesting varieties, printing errors, etc. If you collect Turkey, please be sure to let me know. The Europa collection is quite comprehensive, including souvenir sheets, mini sheets, and booklets, and will form the base of a wide-ranging Europa stock. If you have a want list for Europa, please send it now. Please email me.

Do you have recent catalogs that need a new home? If you have some recent catalogs (preferably 2003 or newer, but older may be okay if it is the 2nd most recent edition), I may be able to help get them into the hands of other appreciative collectors. I can assure you that you won't get rich from them, but I can usually pay at least the Media Mail shipping cost and usually more (often a lot more). Let me know what you have.

These can be Scott Catalogs, Scandinavian catalogs, and any other specialized catalogs of the world (or even general catalogs such as Yvert, Gibbons, or Michel). For example, for my own library I am seeking various recent Michel and Gibbons catalogs. Clear up some space on your shelving!

I also buy whole philatelic libraries covering any philatelic subject area. Are you trying to de-clutter your home, downsizing to a smaller home, or cutting back on your collecting interests? Whether handbooks & monographs, reference catalogs, runs of periodicals or auction catalogs, or even clipping files, I am usually interested. Be sure to contact me before shipping!

5.  Special Offers: Collections & Albums -- Great Buys Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

I am constantly buying large and small Scandinavian, U.S., and Worldwide collections. If you are considering getting into a new area and would like a "starter collection" (whether small or large), let me know about your interest. Also, if you are seeking used binders or used empty albums to match what you currently have, again, let me know. In the process of buying Scandinavian collections, many of my long-time clients (or their estates) ask that I assist in selling the non-Scandinavian portion of their collections. If there is something you are looking for, just let me know. Take a look at the current listings on the web site (but if you don't see your interest listed, please inquire -- most have not been listed on the web site yet).

I guarantee your satisfaction. Each item is one of a kind; orders will be filled in order of receipt. Payment by MasterCard or Visa suggested, but I will hold items for 10 days pending receipt of your check or money order if you prefer.

#731499   Norway Collection in Safe Dual Hingeless Albums 1856-2005
FOUR VOLUME collection on Safe "Dual" Hingeless album pages -- paper pages with clear plastic overlay pages allowing you to place stamps in the plastic pages and also on the paper pages if you wish. Click here to see what this type of page looks like. Contained in four handsome Safe "Morocco" binders, three of them blue and one black. The stamps consist of about 900 mostly different (a few are present both mint and used) mixed Mint and Used stamps starting with 1856 issues. The stamps run to about 2000, but the album pages continue through 2005. Quality is generally F-VF or better, with the majority VF. The total 2008 Scott value of the stamps is over $830!! The pages need a bit of explaining: The 1855-1997 paper pages bear the original owners markings including the catalog number. Those pages are generally in good to excellent condition, and an interim owner found them to be quite suitable. If those pages were new, they would have a list price of over $375 -- but I have not counted them at all in the selling price! (Individual replacement paper pages can be obtained from the album publisher if desired.) All the plastic pages are in excellent condition. From 1997-2005 the pages are like-new and that section alone has a new retail value of more than $110. The binders are well cared for and are in excellent used condition -- The four binders have a total new list price of over $180! There is a lot of value here: Stamps $830 PLUS Album $375 + $110 + $180. Count it however you like, but you will agree that this price is a terrific bargain! $379.00

Over 100 stamps, mostly different (a few in block of 4), mounted on various album pages. Mostly mint including useful singles and a few complete sets. A nice representative selection from this remote colony. $39.00

#731497   Great Britain Regional Issues 1958-93

Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731495   Russia Arctic and Antarctic Cover and Card Collection
Fascinating collection of 84 items, with emphasis on government-issued postal stationery (mix of mint and used). Every item has an Arctic or Antarctic connection in the postmark, usage, illustration, etc. Most of this type of Russian postal stationery is illustrated and thus fit nicely into Polar and/or thematic collections. The items range from the 1970s to the early 1990s. Thematics include polar bears, sled dogs, helicopters and airplanes, icebreakers and other ships, submarines, reindeer, native peoples, polar birds and animals, petroleum, maps, explorers, science and scientists, etc. While there may be a few items worth only a couple dollars each, many/most are worth at least several dollars each. One of the most interesting groups of such items that I have seen in many years. $249.00
