Scott #97 4-block [1913 5 øre green Christian X] (VF) on a 30 September 1915 cover from "KØBENHAVN / K" with handstamped cancellation, TO Paris, FRANCE, with French CENSORSHIP tape and handstamps. In 52 years, this is probably the earliest-during-WWI cover I have had from Denmark to France, and is the only example I can recall having with this style of French censor tape and censor markings (see both sides) on a cover from a Scandinavian / Nordic country. In my experience, WWI-era censored covers from Denmark to France are remarkably scarce. This is a first weight class (up to 20 grams) 20 øre franking (1 Oct 1907 thru 31 Jan 1921). Surprisingly unusual in general and perhaps "very scarce" with this specific style of censorship from a Scandinavian / Nordic country. The Danish cancellation on this cover may be of interest to a thematic collector of "Time": The cancellation has an unusual time indicator of 12 3/4 - 1 3/4 PM; I have not seen many examples of quarter-hour time indicators such as this.

Scott #97 x6 [1913 5 øre green Christian X] (VF) on 6 September 1916 cover from "KØBENHAVN / K / 1" with machine cancellation, TO Gif (in Seine et Oise) FRANCE, with French CENSORSHIP tape and handstamps. The envelope (made of expensive, laid paper) was roughly opened on the backside, but looks perfectly fine on the front and pretty good on the back. In my experience, WWI-era censored covers from Denmark to France are remarkably scarce. This is a SECOND WEIGHT CLASS (up to 40 grams) 30 øre franking (1 Oct 1907 thru 31 Jan 1921). Letters over 20 grams to Europe are also much less often encountered than one might expect. Surprisingly unusual!

100 Pair [1913 10 øre Christian X] (F-VF, one damaged) on 25 October 1919 cover from HØRSHOLM to DAMASCUS, SYRIA, with 12 November 1919 receiver on reverse. Proper 20 øre foreign letter rate. This is a "rare" destination for mail from Denmark, especially pre-1920; I may have had (only) one or two other Danish pre-1960 (a much longer time period than this pre-1920 cover) covers to Syria, but I do not recall any specifics. The damage to one stamp is inconsequential on a use this "rare".

Scott #107 [1920 25 øre brown and black Christian X] (VF) solo use on 14 October 1921 picture post card (artist-signed, dated 1919, comical cartoon scene of children playing musical instruments) from København with machine cancellation, to Kaiserwald, Riga, LATVIA. Kaiserwald was the German name for the present-day Riga neighborhood of Mezaparks. This is a correct solo use of this stamp. In the Scandinavian / Nordic countries, 1921-1925 is an interesting era in postal rates when rate rose around 1921, but then declined again around 1925. The correct solo uses of stamps in that era are generally harder to find. This use is an example of that situation. This 25 øre brown and black stamp was "issued" (or delivered from the printer) 2 June 1920, with the intended use being domestic registered letters (10 øre letter rate plus 15 øre registry fee). The foreign post card rate changed from 10 øre to 25 øre on 1 February 1921, making this stamp further relevant. This brown and black 25 øre Chr-X stamp continued in use in this new primary role because a new 25 øre stamp (red Chr-X) was not issued until 4 January 1922. This stamp is remarkably hard to find as a solo use either on covers or post cards. A wonderful example in excellent quality, sent to a rather unusual destination for mail from Denmark.

112, 124 [1921 30 øre orange and 1924 60 øre green-blue Christian X] (VF) on 23 November 1925 cover from "KJØBENHAVN 11" to the U.S. The cover appears to be in rough quality but everything is not as it seems -- this is a 4th weight class use (>60 grams through 80 grams) -- the quality is appropriate for the use! This is also from one of the shortest (and thus scarcest) postal rate periods: 1 November 1925 through 31 December 1927. For foreign letters, the first 20 grams was 30 øre, with each subsequent 20 grams 20 øre. The envelope wear and the irregular strikes of the postmarks is due to the bulky nature of the letter contained in the envelope; thick-contents wear lines are visible around the edges of the envelope. In this time period, an ordinary 20 gram cover would be very common, but a 4th weight class letter such as this is remarkably scarce. Furthermore, this 60 øre blue-green Christian X stamp is scarce on cover; AFA 2023 on-cover value is DKK 200 (11/2024 approx $30) for a normal use.

120 and 100 [1913 50 øre Wine-Red and 10 øre Christian X] (F-VF) on 1 July 1918 "Adressebrev" parcel letter form (to accompany parcels in the mail) for a 5 kg parcel from "KØBENHAVN 5" to Ærøeskjøbing. The postal rate for a 5 kg parcel was 35; though this adressebrev does not bear any notations in this regard, it must have been a COD (cash on delivery; postopkrævning) parcel with 10-50 kroner payment due, which would explain the other 25 øre franking. The 50 øre stamp is quite scarce on cover.

120 [1913 50 øre Wine-Red Christian X] (F-VF, discolored spot due to handling in the mails) correct solo use on 16 February 1919 "Adressebrev" parcel letter form (to accompany parcels in the mail) for a 3 kg parcel from "KØBENHAVN 3" to Kjertminde. This solo use is somewhat scarce because this 3 kg postal rate did not start until 1 January 1919, but was again increased on 5 October 1919, however, this Wine-Red 50 øre was replaced with the Wine-Red and Black bicolored 50 øre on 2 January 1919! This stamp is generally quite scarce on cover.

121, 116 x2, and 100 x2 [Christian X: 50 øre black and red violet, 40 øre black and violet, and 10 øre red (brilliant shade)] on unusual high-franking 1921 registered cover from AABENRAA to the U.S. Cover is seriously worn, however, the 50 øre is scarce on envelopes (i.e. not parcel card) and high-franking covers to foreign countries are seldom seen. Items such as this must be preserved.
