Schleswig stampless cover with 6 January 1855 BARMSTEDT "half-ring" cancellation, to Schleswig (town). Official mail, bearing red wax seal on reverse with Barmstedt administration text. Though without the typical markings of official mail, is unfranked and on the front only a very faint "1" marking in black. Very attractive and fresh. Schleswig-Holstein postal history and cancellations are cataloged by the AFA Specialized catalog, most recently in 2016 and available from me (this postmark value DKK 350). Very fresh and attractive.

Stampless cover, unpaid, with "6" Postage Due, with 12 October 1856 STUBBEKJÖBING one-ring cancellations. No contents. Very ornate addressing and with bold red crayon "6" postage due marking. While unpaid letters were still accepted for mailing at this time, the practice had become uncommon and by now recipients were typically expecting the sender to pay the postage. This small town was the hometown of early Lutheran missionary Hans Egede, well known for his work in Greenland (he is pictured on Danish and Greenlandic stamps). Very attractive.

Stampless Cover, England to Denmark (Schleswig): Envelope from LONDON 1 July 1862, marked "via Ostende" (Belgian coastal town), via HAMBURG, to HADERSLEV in Schleswig, with a more unusual year-dated receiving postmark on reverse. Two Hamburg markings on the reverse: a bold "HAMBURG" city postmark and a faint "K.D.O.P.A. HAMBURG" (Royal Danish Post Office in Hamburg). Blue British and red Danish or German rate markings. Examples of such use to Schleswig is sought after; Haderslev remained with Denmark after the 1920 plebiscite.
