Scott #97 x6 [1913 5 øre green Christian X] (VF) on 6 September 1916 cover from "KØBENHAVN / K / 1" with machine cancellation, TO Gif (in Seine et Oise) FRANCE, with French CENSORSHIP tape and handstamps. The envelope (made of expensive, laid paper) was roughly opened on the backside, but looks perfectly fine on the front and pretty good on the back. In my experience, WWI-era censored covers from Denmark to France are remarkably scarce. This is a SECOND WEIGHT CLASS (up to 40 grams) 30 øre franking (1 Oct 1907 thru 31 Jan 1921). Letters over 20 grams to Europe are also much less often encountered than one might expect. Surprisingly unusual! ACTUAL item. |
