223d, 229b, 238Al Set [1937 Dybbøl Mill set of panes, see Scott #B6-8] Mint (lower stamps NH) VF/XF set of three 4-blocks (i.e. the booklet panes without the mounting tabs; this is the way they are shown in many albums). Extremely lightly hinged on the top two stamps only. 223d, the green 5 øre block, contains Scott #223a, the scarce grayish-green stamp; this is the only source of that stamp -- this example of 223a is NH XF. The brown 10 øre block contains the AFA Type IA / Facit Type II of Scott #229, the 10 øre brown Wavy-Line issue; a scarcer stamp -- this example is XF. The red 15 øre block contains Facit #227a, the "Fine pearls in crown", which is a scarce stamp in its own right -- this example is NH VF. The well-known CLUB FOOT variety and line in bottom right of K of DANMARK variety from position 30 in part of the printing.There are actually two club foot varieties, this one also with the line in the K, and a different one, without the line in K (and slightly different club foot), from position 40 in part of the printing. A very nice example despite the creasing. Seldom offered and always in demand. The underlying stamp was printed in Type I (this example) and Type II (common, not this example). The Type I underlying stamps were printed on German Paper and Danish Paper. The German Paper has grayish paper, dark gum, and ink that is light green under UV light -- this overprint was never applied to the German Paper stamps. The Danish Paper stamps have whiter paper and light-colored gum, but were printed with both the ink that is light green under UV light (scarcer) and this example which was printed with ink that is gray under UV light. All the Type I overprinted stamps are scarce. This scarce stamp has a place in most European-made Danish albums, but it is missing from (or misidentified in) the vast majority of collections. Select Stamps - Scott #176 to Current Issues continued ...
271 OVERPRINT ERROR [1940 20 øre Surcharge on 15 øre Red Caravel, AFA Type II (w/o hook on spar)] Vertical bottom-margin pair with XF centering, Used with "...RUP" cancellation. 4/5-th of the overprint is missing from the top stamp and the overprint is entirely missing from the bottom stamp. This is most likely a sheet fold-over error whereby the bottom left corner of the sheet was folded up toward the upper right. However, it also could be the result of piece of "foreign matter" (i.e. a loose scrap of paper) getting between the overprint plate and the sheet of stamps. Either way, this type of error is transitory and either affected only one (fold-over) or up to a few (foreign matter) sheets of stamps. In Scott Catalogue error parlance, the lower stamp would qualify (as long as it is still attached to the upper stamp) as a full-scale "missing overprint error". This distinction puts it in a very special class of Danish rarities! While this is a rarely-seen type of error on Danish overprinted stamps, it is VERY RARE on a USED item because it had to be overlooked several times between production, quality control inspection, and use -- and then the pair had to remain intact. This is very likely UNIQUE. To the best of my memory, as of 9/2024, this is the only (either Mint or Used) Danish overprint-fold-over error -- and certainly the only one that resulted in a "missing overprint error" that I have been able to offer in my 50 year career.

288 "Bomb" Variety, AFA #273x, Facit #308v [1942 10 øre Round Tower] Used with XF centering and neat cancellation that leaves the variety visible. The "bomb" variety is a diagonal line in the sky to the right of the tower, just below the top rim (on this example, it is between the top two lines of the cancellation). The tower bears a Hebrew inscription which causes this basic stamp to also be sought after by Judaica collectors. This is one of the nicest looking Used examples of this variety that I have had in a long time.
