Unless there is a 6-digit item number in the left-most column, the images shown in this section are standard images of the issues from my image library; they are presented to show the designs of the stamp issues and not to show the specific individual stamps being offered. The centering of the stamps in the images is usually Superb or VF quality; again these are not images of the individual stamps being offered. Most early stamps had multiple printings, thus color shades vary greatly; the colors in the images are random printings/colors. If there is a 6-digit item number in the left-most column, the image is of the actual item being offered.
All the listed conditions and qualities were in stock at the moment this list was prepared and I endeavor to maintain them in stock and to keep this website updated. However, my stock changes daily and (to paraphrase) good stamps are hard to find. If you are willing to accept a different grade or quality if an item is temporarily out of stock, please let me know when ordering (add a comment at the conclusion of the shopping cart process) and please also let me know of any alternates you will consider. Furthermore, new stamps are being put in stock every day; if the quality and/or condition you are seeking is not listed, please send your want list.
This list surely includes a few errors; I will be grateful if you would inform me of any errors you see. Stamps "missing" from the list simply might not be included because they are not in stock or are singles which are normally only listed in full sets. Just the same if it seems like something obvious (and not a single from a set) is missing, please let me know. If you can offer for sale items that are not listed here, please do so; I especially need sources of recent used complete sets. Prices are subject to typographical error and change, but I will do my best to honor the listed prices to the extent of available stock.

Scott #O10 [1899 8 øre Official, Perf 12.75, (Small Crown Watermark)] Mint, lightly hinged, with Fine+ centering. NO CROWN WATERMARK. A very small part of bottom corner marginal POSTHORN watermark is visible, when viewed from the reverse, in the lower right corner -- i.e. stamp position 91 in the printed sheet.The complete background story even though not all details are applicable to this stamp issue: Danish stamps with watermarks that include marginal text (i.e. all issues with crown watermarks) were intended to show the marginal watermark text right-reading from the FRONT of the stamp. However, philatelists view watermarks from the BACK of the stamps. The printing plates consisted of 100 (usually) or 50 (only in a few cases) stamps each. Depending upon the stamp issue and time period, the complete printing form may have include one, two, or four such plates. Depending upon the stamp issue and time period, the stamp paper may have been large enough to print 100, 200, or 400 stamps. Some of those 200-size printer sheets were printed with one plate of 100 stamps using a "run and flip" method, by which the paper was turned over, but was still upright, to print the second 200 stamps. Those "run and flip" situations result in 50% of the marginal watermark letters being right-reading from the backside and 50% being reversed ("wrong-reading") from the backside. THIS stamp issue was printed with a plate of 100 stamps. While the literature is not explicit on the subject of the paper-sheet-size for THIS stamp issue, it is believed to also have been 100 stamps (i.e. the "run and flip" method was NOT believed to have been used for THIS stamp issue). This is important to understand when determining the sheet position of THIS no-crown-watermark stamp. No-crown-watermark stamps of this era are "extremely scarce", but are NOT "rare". They resulted from a shift in the paper positioning when the paper was placed into the printing press (or the watermark positioning on the paper, but on this paper type that would be extremely unlikely) relative to the printing plate. There are FOUR possible sheet positions for which a no-crown-watermark stamp may be created if there is a shift. Reasonably assuming that the shift is usually or always sideways, only two such positions (both at the left side, or both at the right side, of the sheet) can exist on any one sheet that has been shifted.A remarkably scarce stamp of which few examples are likely to have originally existed. In 52 years, I have only recorded having one other example of this stamp with the no-crown-watermark variety.Illustrations of the entire-sheet watermarks and the positioning of this specific stamp are included with the item.
