Scott Classic 2026 #13c, Facit #14Ab [1862 3 öre Lion, Type I, (Yellowish) Orange Brown] The (yellowish, not olivish) orange-brown printing. Mint with Average centering as usual, and WITHOUT GUM, as usual. Examples with gum are "very scarce". The Scott Classic Catalogue started listing the Type I stamps a few years ago. However, for Type I, Scott lists only two colors, brown and orange-brown. However, there are, and Facit lists, three possible colors: Facit #14Aa olivish brown to olivish orange brown; Facit #14Ab yellowish brown to yellowish orange-brown; and Facit #14Ac reddish brown. The first two listings are ranges of color shades that can be confused. All three colors ONLY exist with the so-called "1855 perforations"; made with a heavily worn perforating tool resulting in irregular, rough perforations with bent (or even missing) perforating pins resulting in variation in perforation hole / tooth size and position. Thus the irregular appearance of the perforations is completely normal and required for a Type I stamp. The Average centering and lack of gum, of this example, is completely typical. However, this example has much stronger color and fresher appearance than usually seen! Scott Classic Catalogue 2026 value $975! ACTUAL item. |

Scott #15 [1869 17 öre BLUISH GRAY Reclining Lion] Used with VF centering and very light cancellation, but with very expertly repaired lower right corner (most people would not find the repair). Otherwise completely genuine and very attractive. The vast majority of examples of Scott #15 offered these days are either defective, altered/faked, or repaired, or are just not pretty. This example is well centered, neatly canceled, and has very fresh color -- and is very attractive. The 2024 Facit value is SEK 6,500 and the 2025 Scott value is $800. If not for the repaired corner, an example with this appearance would easily fetch $700. ACTUAL item. |

15 [1866 17 öre GRAY Lion] Used with F-VF appearance, but has been reperforated (though not repaired). Very well centered STOCKHOLM cancellation and an additional red partial "(N)EW YO(RK)" transit/receiving postmark. While this stamp was typically used on mail to other countries, use to the U.S. is extremely rare. This would otherwise be about $600 for this centering with normal cancellation. Quite attractive and offered at a very low price for such a nice looking example and considering the rarity of the postmark. ACTUAL item. |
