Great Britain Scott #33 "Penny Red" Complete Plating (#98) of 240 Stamps: Scott #33, Gibbons #43-44 (two color shades of the "G" series stamps), 1684 1d Red perforated Queen Victoria. Plate #98 complete sheet reconstruction of 240 stamps including all positions from AA through TL, neatly arranged and labeled, in black mounts on five pages. Quality varies from sound and F-VF to minor faults (as is typical for a plating), but overall are very presentable examples. Most have light cancellations and the plate number is visible on all. I have not checked for inverted watermarks or repair (re-cut) impressions. Scott 2019 value is $7.00 per stamp for Plate #98, times 240 equals $1680! Gibbons Victoria 14th edition (2006) is 6.50 pound per stamp, equaling 1560 pounds or about $1980 (12/6/2018)! These catalog values do not begin to reflect the rarity and number of stamps (probably hundreds of thousands?) that had to be examined in order to build this plating. An incredibly impressive assemblage! It is a daunting task to assemble a complete reconstruction of 240 positions without regard for plate number. To accomplish it using only one plate number (and a somewhat scarce one at that) is a monumental achievement that probably took several decades. Here is an opportunity for you to own a single-plate-number plating without having to invest hundreds or thousands of hours of effort! Shipping cost is additional for this item.

"Penny Black" ca.1940 ENGRAVED "REPRINTS" in five colors. NH VF (see image for margin sizes of each stamp). THE TWO DIFFERENT SETS of 5, both with "DK" in bottom corners and otherwise the top corner are 1) the usual ornament vs 2) the top corners are "VR" (Victoria Regina -- an essay design intended for official mail stamps). Though I have read a number of theories, I have not been able to learn the definitive attribution of "DK" (let me know if you have the answer). These are said to have been printed and issued by issued ca. 1940 by Waterlow and Son as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the issuance of the Penny Black, the first national service postage stamp of the world. (If you are sure of different attribution of the source, please let me know). Each set is in all (the only) five of the colors I have ever seen for these. Wonderfully fresh with brilliant colors. Exceptional examples of the art of stamp engraving -- if only the issued stamps looked this nice! While not "rare", these are uncommon, with NH sets seldom being offered these days (70 years after issue). Very low price per stamp!

Scott #1, 1840 Penny Black, corner letters H and I. Four large, even margins, VF or better in all respects. Clearly tied with red Maltese Cross cancellation on 23 November 1840 folded cover (no contents) from HELSTONE, with very clear, black, dated postmark, to Devonport. Previous owner notation on reverse "Plate 4 / 15". With expected filing fold, well away from and NOT affecting the stamp. Accompanied by 1964 certificate from the famous Chicago dealer John Ross. A very attractive example of the WORLDS FIRST ADHESIVE POSTAGE STAMP used on cover! (Scott 2019 value $640.)

Scott #4 (B,E), 1841 2p blue Queen Victoria. Used F-VF, 3 margins with RARE Maltese cancellation with the numeral 4 in center. (A London office postmark. Numbers 1-12 exist; all are scarce to rare with values in SG 2012 ranging from 400 to 800 pounds on this stamp!) The cancellation is upright. The 4 in the center of the cross is perhaps not obvious at first, but playing with the colors in a digital image shows it up fairly well. The center would otherwise be a diamond shape, which this is certainly not. Gibbons 2012 value is 700 POUNDS = $1120! Priced very low due to the three margins and the esoteric nature -- a huge bargain!
