Denmark: Bargains: Scott #25-34
These bargain-priced stamps are attractive, but many have described hidden flaws. You can save a tremendous amount of money when you add such stamps to your collection. Each stamp is one of a kind, so please let me know if I may substitute a different example (that looks as good or better, for the same cost) if the stamp you order has sold. If you have any doubts, all are available for approval viewing. If you are seeking stamps of this quality and price level from any of the Scandinavian countries, just send along your want list -- I will be happy to send bargains on approval. Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise stated.

Scott #25h, AFA #22yx, Facit #28iv. Printing 8. Position 54 (missing A of DAN) in Inverted Frame sheet. [1875 (December 1888 printing) 3 øre Bicolor, Perforation 14 x 13.5, Inverted Frame, MISSING "A"] HORIZONTAL PAIR with "normal" Scott #25g [Blue and Gray, Inverted Frame] stamp on the left and this MISSING "A" variety stamp on the right. Mint with Fine centering but has disturbed original gum, old hinge remnants, and an old hinge acting as reinforcement of the pair. (Most often, examples of this variety are completely missing their gum, so the hinge remnants are NOT so much of a negative.) This well-known missing "A" error occurs in only two printings: this Printing 8 with INVERTED FRAME with the variety in position 54; and Printing 9 with Normal Frame and with the variety in position 77. Thus this (Printing 8) is the only way to get the Inverted Frame version of the variety / error. Starting with the 2025 Scott Classic Catalogue, Scott DOES now list both inverted (this one) and normal frames for the "missing A" stamp (but there is some confusion in the listing in the 2025 and probably the 2026 editions; I have already contacted the Scott editors). Despite the disturbed gum, this example has overall attractive appearance. AFA 2016 Specialized Catalog (still the most recent edition as of 11/2025) value is DKK 600 (as of 11/25/2025 about US$90), but this variety is much scarcer in the marketplace than that relatively low value suggests. The variety stamp being in a pair with a "normal" stamp is much more desirable, but because of the gum quality of this example, it does not actually increase the price very much. This major error / variety is missing from most collections!

Scott #27, AFA #24.3æ, Facit #30bv2 variety. Printing 3 with catalog-listed variety "Small Pearl Flaw" (position A63 in Printing 3). [1879 5 øre Bicolor, July 1880 printing] Used with Average-Fine centering, but some blunted perforation teeth at top. Neat KJØBENHAVN cancellation that is completely clear of the variety area. Accompanied by a 2003 Lasse Nielsen "Opinion" certificate (LN did not use pictures on the "Opinion" style certificates; but the correct postmark date of this stamp is stated on the "Opinion" certificate) stating "Genuine and without repairs" and "Acceptable copy". For decades, LN was the primary Danish expert for Danish Bicolor stamps. The 2016 AFA Specialized Catalog (still the most recent edition as of 11/2025) catalog value for this variety on this printing is DKK 1600 (as of 11/2025 about $250). This is a reasonable-looking example of a very scarce variety, at a very low price!
