Denmark: Bargains: Official Stamps: Scott #O1-O24
These bargain-priced stamps are attractive, but many have described hidden flaws. You can save a tremendous amount of money when you add such stamps to your collection. Each stamp is one of a kind, so please let me know if I may substitute a different example (that looks as good or better, for the same cost) if the stamp you order has sold. If you have any doubts, all are available for approval viewing. If you are seeking stamps of this quality and price level from any of the Scandinavian countries, just send along your want list -- I will be happy to send bargains on approval. Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise stated.

Scott #O1 Light Grayish Blue [1871 blue-ultramarine 2 skilling Official Perf 14 x 13.5] Used with F-VF centering and with a very well struck #38 (Lemvig) 3-ring numeral cancellation, but with faults. There is a small tear at top, two rounded corners, and some short perforations (but no other faults). The color is Light Grayish Blue -- it is NOT faded. Scott lists two colors for the 2 skilling Official stamp: #O1 Blue and #O1a Ultramarine. That "Blue" has multiple shades. The AFA Specialized Catalog and the Facit Classic Catalog each list three colors for the 2 skilling Official stamp. There numbers are respectively (with dates delivered from the printer): #1.1/1a Ultramarine (April 1871); #1a.2/1b Light Blue - Dull Blue (December 1871); and #1a.3/1c Blue (May 1873). The Ultramarine color is very distinctive. However, the two Blue printings are really more of a range of colors/shades. They all tend to be mixed up or misidentified in collections, especially since many people have difficultly distinguishing between ultramarine and blue. Without any defects, this centering would be $130. This is a very inexpensive example as a space filler; or to show an example of one of the color shades of Printing 2; or for the nice #38 numeral cancellation.

Scott #O1a Ultramarine [1871 2 skilling Official] Used with F-VF centering, but has small faults (a couple rounded corner perforations, and only visible from the backside, a thin spot and a hard-to-see crease). An attractive example of the strong Ultramarine color. Without the quality problems, this centering would be $130!

O3 [1871 16 skilling Official, perf 14 x 13.5] Used with F-VF+ centering and with neat perfectly struck, but sideways "99." 3-ring cancellation of FREDENSBORG. Wonderful color and very attractive, but expertly reperforated at top. Accompanied by Lasse Nielsen opinion (certificate without photo). This would otherwise be $320 with this centering!

Scott #O3 [1871 16 skilling Official, Perf 14 x 13.5] Used with F-VF centering and with very light town cancellation, but with one shorter perforation tooth at top and a very small thin spot. Wonderful color and very attractive. This would otherwise be $265 with this centering! A handsome example of a scarce stamp that is missing from most collections.

O4 [1871 4 skilling Official PERFORATION 12.5] Used with Fine centering and neat #56 [Ringkøbing] 3-ring numeral cancellation. Nice Carmine color, typical centering, and large margins on three sides, for this scarce stamp. Typical perforations for this line-perforated stamp (usually with messy perforations and always rougher on the top and bottom than on the sides). This is one of the scarcest Danish major-number stamps (only #21 is on more want lists). A sound example of a stamp that is missing from most collections, offered at a very reasonable price.

Scott #O5 [1871 16 skilling Official, Line Perforation 12.75] Used with F-VF centering, but with missing lower right corner. The top and bottom have the usual and expected very rough perforations. The damaged lower right corner probably came about due to the insufficient perforations along the bottom. There are NO other defects that are not visible in the website image. Because of worn-out perforating equipment, most examples of Scott #O4 and #O5 have very rough perforations at the top and bottom, and fairly clean perforations on the left and right sides. That is normal and expected. Be cautious of examples that have clean and neat top and/or bottom perforations. The Facit Classic 2024 value is SEK 4000 (4/2026 about $400). A stamp with this centering, but without the damaged corner would sell for $360.

O6 Print 1 (Dark Color) [1875 3 øre Perforation 14 x 13.5 Official] NH Fine. Remarkably fresh and with unusually nice perforations for this stamp. AFA 2016 (most recent) Specialized value DKK 900 = $125 (10/2022). This early stamp is quite hard to find in NH condition.

Scott #O9 Yellow Green, Facit #Tj9b AFA #TJ7a [1875 32 øre Official, Perforation 14 x 13.5] Used with F-VF++ centering and neat cancellation. Upper left corner perforation tooth rounded, but no other defects on this hard-to-find stamp. There is a space for this Yellow Green stamp in many European-made albums; the catalogs value this color a just over twice the value of the normal Green color. If not for the rounded corner tooth, this would be $60. A pretty example of a scarce stamp.

Scott #O20 [1923 5 øre Brown Official] Used with F-VF+ centering and neat, light cancellation. Though the cancellation is a type in use at the time, this example does not show a full date and thus cannot be proved to be a timely use (this stamp was used 11 September 1923 through 31 March 1924, only seven months). With properly dated cancellation this centering would be at least $28. Very attractive and very reasonably priced.

Scott #O20 [1923 5 øre Brown Official] Used with F-VF centering and neat, light cancellation, but with a thin spot. Though the cancellation is a type in use at the time, this example shows a date of (22 May 192?) and thus it cannot have been used in the correct time period (this stamp was used 11 September 1923 through 31 March 1924, only seven months). With properly dated cancellation this centering would be at least $25. Very attractive and very reasonably priced.
