Scott #138 [M-17 Saarinen Lions: 5 mk Watermark Swastika, Perf 14.25 x 14.75] (VF) solo use on 4 February 1928 domestic parcel card from HELSINKI, to KOTKA with Russian-Text-Removed receiving postmark on reverse. The combination of the date and perforation confirms that the stamp has to have the swastika watermark. The 5 mk rate was for a inland parcel up to 1 kg weight (1 July 1924 - 31 August 1942).

Stampless State Railway Official Mail: 7 September 1919 Notification Card, from "TURKU / ÅBO" bilingual (Finnish / Swedish) with a VF strike of the Russian-Text-Removed bridge-style cancellation, used locally. The addressee was well-known, probably receiving such cards regularly, and thus no address was required by the post office. State Railway form number is "O. N:o 810." (without a specific print date or batch number). The form numbers seldom if ever changed, however, there is an evolution of text differences over time and different printings can use different type fonts, spacing, and appearance. Always carefully compare cards for such differences. The paper stock of this card is smoother (calendered) than the paper being used -- and the printing quality is much better -- than just three months before. This type of card advises the recipient that the listed freight (a quantity of vagnslast [train car loads] or kolli [boxes], along with their weight, can be picked up from the railway, and that an amount may be due for unpaid freight charges ("obetald frakt" in Swedish), and that an amount of "efterkraf" (Swedish term for payment upon delivery) may be due for the items that were shipped. There is a LIGHT BLUE dated handstamp of the Turku / Åbo customs office. Such cards almost always have a spindle hole or minor filing crease; that does not affect their value. Because the State Railway was a Finnish government organization, they had the privilege of mailing as official mail without applying postage stamps. Such cards were rarely saved and thus are seldom seen even in Finland; they are rarely offered outside of Finland! A very nice example!

Stampless State Railway Official Mail: 16 February 1920 Notification Card, from "TURKU / ÅBO" bilingual (Finnish / Swedish) with a Superb strike of the Russian-Text-Removed bridge-style cancellation, used locally. The paper stock of this card is much darker and smoother (calendered) than the paper being used -- and the printing quality is much better -- than a year before. There is a DARK BLUE dated handstamp of the Turku / Åbo customs office.

Scott #169 [1930 1-1/5 mark red violet M-30 Lion] (VF) on solo use 11 July 1930 domestic cash-on-delivery parcel card in the amount of 80 penni, which was just over half the cost of the postage spent to collect that amount! Sent from HELSINKI, to the village of TYRNÄVÄ with SUPERB strike of Russian-text-removed receiving postmark on reverse. While this is a COD parcel card, in this case there was no actual parcel accompanying the card. This appears to have been a mechanism to collect an amount (probably a balance due) on some sort of subscription or dues. The 1.5 mark rate was the entire fee to collect up to 100 marks (15 January 1926 - 30 April 1931). If there had been an associated parcel, the postage for the parcel would have been additional. The small-village Russian-text-removed cancellation is at least as valuable as the unusual use of the card.
