Finland: Cancellations: By Type - Russian Stamps Used in Finland (Finnish Cancellations on Russian Stamps)
Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise indicated. Cancellations starting with "non-English" letters are at the end of the alphabet. All these items and much more are available for viewing on approval; please request approvals.
The Facit Classic Catalog lists and numbers Russian stamps used in Finland; Facit numbers have been used in these listings (and sometimes also the Scott numbers of the Russian stamps). Facit lists, with an "R" prefix, the Russian stamps sold at Finnish post offices. Additionally, Russian stamps not regularly sold in Finland, but brought into Finland by private individuals, are called "co-runners" and are listed by Facit with an "RM" prefix. The cancellations must be identifiable as being Finnish. Cancellations on which the town name is decipherable command a premium; and an even larger premium if the town name is complete; and a yet larger premium if it is also at least year-dated. Cancellations from small towns, rural mail carriers (numerals), and "postal stopping places" (straight-lines) are much scarcer and also command premiums. All these listed items, and usually more, are available for viewing on approval. Please request approvals.

Russia Used in Finland: Facit #R18 on Facit #RP9 Russian postal card [1909 1 kopek orange with Varnish Pattern; 1909 3 kopek postal card] Used VF on 19 August 1912 from "UUSIKIRKKO Wp L" to Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany. The 1 kopek stamp uprates the card from the domestic rate to the foreign rate. This is a KARELIAN LOST TERRITORIES small town now in Russia as Polyany. Wikipedia: The Finnish name means New Church (Lake). Mikael Agricola [Scott #276-7, #668, #1286, and #B13] died there on return from the negotiations for the Treaty of Novgorod. A very attractive commercial use that is much less common than the modest catalog value of the card would suggest.
