The Crown and Posthorn cancellations of Iceland are seldom seen but very actively collected. Unlike most Scandinavian town postmarks, it is the exception for Crown and Posthorn cancellations to be well centered -- well centered examples are rare and demand large premiums.
The cancellations are cataloged by Facit cancellation numbers, while the stamps are cataloged by Scott numbers.
Crown and Posthorn Cancellation (ARNAR)GERDAREYRI (Facit #4) Black VF on Scott #24 F-VF. A very nice and clear partial strike of a scarce cancellation.

O8, Facit #TJ8c [1876 20 aur Official, perforation 14 x 13.5] Third (1891) Printing: Light(er) Yellow Green, Medium-thick Paper. Used with F-VF centering and attractive (KOTST)RÖND Crown and Posthorn cancellation. Though this particular C/P cancel does not have a high catalog value, I have had very few of them over the years. The official stamps are generally quite scarce with C/P cancels. Very pretty!

Crown and Posthorn Cancellation very likely OLA(FSVI)K (Facit #67) Black Average on Scott #17 F-VF. The OL are faint, but the A is clear and the K is very clear. While the strike could be better, it is on a nice example of a scarcer stamp. Price only for the Used F-VF stamp, with nothing added for the cancellation.

51 [1902 "I GILDI" black overprint on 4 aur Numeral, Perforation 12.75] Used with F-VF+ centering and neat, partial (S)KAGAS(TRÖND) CROWN AND POSTHORN CANCELLATION. There is only one possible postmark for the letters showing in this cancellation. This postmark on the least costly stamp is listed by Facit 2024 at SEK 400. The stamp itself with an ordinary postmark would sell for $54. Crown and Posthorn cancellations are unusual on the I GILDI stamps. Very pretty stamp.

36 [1902 5 aur Christian IX] Used with XF centering and attractive, about 50% complete, violet BREIĐDA(ALSVIK) Type 2 (only type for this town) Crown and Posthorn cancellation. Facit C/P cancel #118 (2024 value SEK 400). Though this particular C/P cancel does not have a very high catalog value, this strike is remarkably nice and readable; it is especially nice to show the first letters of the town -- also, it is upright and on a well-centered stamp. An excellent example for this type of postmark! The stamp was issued 9 October 1902 and the use almost all (including this one) C/P cancellations ceased by summer of 1903, thus this cancellation on this stamp was only possible for about 8 months!
