Scott #447 [1973 13 kr Europa] (VF) on picture post card (Stapafell and Snæfellsjökull [glacier], Western Iceland) datelined 5 July 1973 and exactly paying the rate for air post cards sent outside Iceland (1 May 1972 - 30 June 1973). The cancellation on the card is unclear, but does show "....S?API", HOWEVER THE CARD SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT IT IS BEING MAILED AT ARNARSTAPI -- A VERY SCARCE POST OFFICE!!!! The picture on the card plays into the very interesting message on the card regarding locating previous sites were numeral cancellations had been used. The card was sent by WAYNE SOMMER, a well-known American collector, researcher, and philatelic writer of Iceland, to a collector of Iceland in the U.S. The stamp was issued 30 April 1973, THUS THIS STAMP COULD ONLY BE USED FOR THE INTENDED POSTAL RATE FOR TWO MONTHS -- SUCH USES ARE VERY SCARCE and certainly even scarcer from a tiny rural post office!
