Scott #651 [1929 2c George Rogers Clark; Vincennes; 1779 Surrender of Fort Sackville] NEVER HINGED with XF centering and JUMBO MARGINS. This issue is normally poorly centered and normally with narrow side margins. This example has well-balanced, wide side margins and wide upper/lower margins. One could search through hundreds of unsorted examples and not find one this nice! Additionally, this example has a VERY UNUSUAL ROSE CARMINE color shade. Wonderfully fresh, with excellent perforations, perfect gum, and a detailed engraving impression. A superlative example -- it would be hard to find a nicer stamp. (Scott 2024 for XF/90, but not Jumbo and not an unusual color, is $17.50.)

Scott #651 [1929 2c George Rogers Clark; Vincennes; 1779 Surrender of Fort Sackville] NEVER HINGED with F-VF centering. This issue is normally poorly centered. Fully perforated top guideline example from the 6th horizontal row of stamps. Printed in sheets of 100, with two panes (5 columns by 10 rows) side by side, divided (with a straight edge) into panes of 50 along a carmine vertical guideline, which is terminated in the top and pane/sheet margins without arrows. There is also a (perforated) horizontal guideline (terminated at extreme top and bottom of the sheet without arrows) between rows 5 and 6. Examples with the horizontal guideline seem to be scarce, likely due to the guideline stamps being used for postage instead of being collected. There are PANE margins at left OR right; the opposite being a straight-edge with guideline; the sides do not contain plate numbers. There are PANE margins at top AND bottom; each pane top margin bears each of carmine frame and black vignette plate numbers (right panes with the added letter "F") and the word "TOP" in carmine or black. Only 10 stamps out of every 50-pane had the natural straight edge on one of the left or right; the cutting of some sheets placed the horizontal guideline on one pane or the other. Examples with the straight edge are now hard to find (most were used for postage rather than going into collections). Examples with the horizontal guideline at top or bottom are also now harder to find for the same reasons. Examples showing the straight edge with the vertical guideline visible are scarcer. Intersection examples showing both the horizontal guideline and the side straight-edge / guideline are much scarcer. In the case of Used stamps with straight edges or guidelines of this inexpensive issue, many (most?) were discarded by collectors before their relative scarcity was understood. I think that collecting the guideline and straight-edge positions is quite challenging and rewarding.

Scott #654 [1929 2c carmine rose Edison, Flat Plate, Perf 11 x 11] NEVER HINGED with large margins and Superb centering. One slightly blunted perforation tip and the normal tiny gum skips (speck size; you might need a magnifying glass; only mentioned for absolute completeness), but is an outstanding example with perfect centering and wonderful freshness. This stamp is quite scarce with centering this nice as evidenced by the Scott graded value. (Scott 2024 value for Superb/98 is $160 and for XF-Superb/95 it is $50.) Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, but it would be difficult to find another example this nice!
