This type of cancellation was used at small places that did not have an actual full post office, but where a mail carrier or train would pick up and drop off mail. Such letters would later receive the dated postmark of the next town (or railway post office car) it transited that had a full post office. This style of cancellation is rare seen on commemorative stamps, especially this very early commemorative issue, because there was very little distribution of the early commemoratives beyond the full post offices.
