Scott #219 (Facit #242C2) 4-strip and Scott #221 (Facit #245C2) x3 [1941 5 aur and 1942 10 aur green Fish, both Comb Perforation 14 x 14] (VF, F-VF) on ca.1942 domestic cover from SAUDARKROKUR to Reykjavik. The cancellations are faint, there is a blemish in the address area, and there is a fold at the bottom, but this is an unusual combination of stamps and was mailed from a mid-size town that is not often encountered on covers in this time period. No markings on reverse. The franking totals 50 aur, made up in an odd way, which means that if it were mailed up through 14 November 1942, it was a double weight cover; or if mailed after that date it was a single weight cover. From this town, with a clear date and the envelope in better quality, this would easily be a $30 item. However, as it is, it has a very low price, despite being quite scarce!

Scott #208B, 226 pair, 229 [1945 1 kr Geysir / Geyser Perf 14; 1943 35 aur Fish; 1939 2 kr Viking, Perf 14] (VF) on 7 June 1946 POSTAL MONEY ORDER TRANSFER FORM FOR WIRED (TELEGRAPHED) PAYMENT in the amount of 1000 kronur from NORDFJORDUR with bridge cancellation, to [Solbergi ???, no postmark]. The stamps are on the reverse -- there was no location for them on the front. While this bridge cancellation is not highly-valued in Facit, any such item from a village is remarkably scarce with a fully readable bridge cancellation. The franking correctly pays the 370 aur rate [14 Nov 1942 - 30 Sep 1947] of 100 aur for the first 1000 kr and 30 aur for each additional 1000 kr or part thereof (100 + 9x30). The lower left corner was snipped off, but I have been told that this was officially done as a "status control" method. Wonderfully fresh quality of a very unusual use. While MAILED postal money order forms from this era are quite scarce, TELEGRAPH / WIRED postal money order forms are "rare" in my experience. This is the only such item I have had in 52 years; it came from an exhibition collection.

Scott #203 x10 PLUS 13 Fish stamps [1938 15 aur Geysir / Geyser] (Fine/F-VF/VF) June 1945 (might be 1 June) legal-size heavy airmail cover to the U.S. from ISAFJORDUR. Franked with 10 examples of the 15 aur GEYSIR stamp (which alone sell for $6 - $12 each as Used stamps, depending upon centering!), plus 13 FISH STAMPS: 5 aur x3; 10 aur Gray x8; and 50 aur x2. The total postage paid was 345 aur. However, the postal rate appears to work out to only 330 aur: 1 APR 1943 through AUG/SEPT 1945 (exact end date of period is not known); the surface rate was 60 aur per 20 grams and the airmail surcharge was 90 aur per 5 grams. It was very common for such errors / differences to occur at the time, especially in the smaller towns out in the "provinces" where such mail was relatively unusual -- this is still considered to be acceptable. In fact, from August 1945 through March 1946, many of the postal rates seem to be formally unrecorded because of the chaos following WWII. There are the remains of U.S. censorship tape on the left end of the envelope. A spectacular and "rare" cover with extremely unusual franking (the Geysir stamps).
