C9, C10 [1931 30 aur, 1 kr ZEPPELIN Overprints] (VF, Fine+) on 30 June 1931 registered post card to Germany (Heinrich Keimel), with usual green triangular handstamp and Friedrichshafen machine receiver. If the stamps were removed from the cover, they would sell for $310 [1/2012] with this centering. Correct franking for a post card. Very fresh and attractive.

Great Britain Scott #261, 263 [1941 2d light orange and 3d light violet George VI] (VF) on very unusual SPECIAL FLIGHT COVER dated 10 August 1945 from "SUTTON COLDFIELD" to Iceland, where it is backstamped in Reykjavik on 16 and 17 August 1945. Mailed by the famous aero-philatelic company Francis J. Field, Ltd.; in their customary pencil handwriting on reverse, it is stated to be from the "First acceptance for civil mails flown by the R.A.F." [to Iceland]. Thus is early post-WWII civil mail, but carried by the RAF which I believe had the only planes flying from the UK to Iceland at this point in time. Addressed to the Icelandic postmaster, whose office dutifully marked the cover with two EXTREMELY SCARCE boxed handstamps: "Refusé" (French language on international mails) and "REBUTS" (returned to sender). These ICELANDIC MARKINGS are rarely seen and very much sought after on any type of mail. This airmail flight is not listed in any catalog or reference that I have checked and I have never before (in 51 years) had an example from this RAF civil mail service. Francis Field was a pioneer in making sure that such unusual airmail situations were documented by covers. The previous owner of this cover paid (very appropriately in my opinion) $67.50 for this cover in the mid-1970s, 50 years ago! This would be a very special addition to an Icelandic airmail postal history collection.
