23 NORMAL FRAME [1900 4 aur Numeral, Perf 12.75] NEVER HINGED with VF centering. Wonderfully fresh and attractive, with bright colors, perfect perforations, post office fresh gum, and nice centering. Though listed in the AFA Specialized Catalog (2016 [in stock] or 1995 original edition or 1997 English translation), but not by Facit, the fact that there are inverted and normal frames of the Icelandic bi-colored Numeral stamps (4, 25, 50, and 100 aur) is not known by most collectors. Each sheet contained 51 normal frames and 49 inverted frames. For details, see this article with illustrations on my website. This is a wonderful example of "fun fact" kind of item that few people even know exists! Priced just as a basic NH stamp with this centering.

Scott #23 INVERTED FRAME [1900 4 aur Bicolored Numeral, Perf 12.75] Mint, modest hinge remnant, with Fine+ centering. Attractive with excellent colors and perforations. Though listed in the AFA Specialized Catalog (2016 [in stock] or 1995 original edition or 1997 English translation), but not yet by Facit, the fact that there are inverted and normal frames of the Icelandic bi-colored Numeral stamps (4, 25, 50, and 100 aur) is not known by most collectors. Scott #24 Dull Green (1898 Printing), with Plate Variety "x" listed by AFA [1896 (1898 Printing) 5 aur Numeral, Perforation 12.75] NEVER HINGED with XF-Superb centering, upper left corner margin single from sheet position 1 with "Cut off / rounded upper right corner WITHOUT a step in it; dent in top frame line above N; and dent in bottom frame line below 5". The "x" variety listed by the 2016 AFA Specialized Catalog (most recent edition as of July 2025; in stock if you would like to have it) essentially represents a couple different specific varieties, including this one; this is the specific variety AFA pictures. This specific variety is listed by Regeling as C1. This stamp (and all the single-color stamps of this design except the Large-3 which was printed with a 100-subject plate) was printed with a 25-subject plate struck four times to print a sheet. This variety from the 1898 Printing appears in plate position 1, thus it can appear in sheet positions 1, 6, 51, and 56; the upper left corner margin obviously confirms that this is from sheet position 1. AFA values the "x" variety in NH condition at 2.5 times the normal value. Nicely centered NH examples are hard to find.

Scott #24 Dull Green (1898 Printing), with Plate Variety "x" listed by AFA [1896 (1898 Printing) 5 aur Numeral, Perforation 12.75] NEVER HINGED with VF centering, left margin single from sheet position 11 with "Cut off upper right corner with a step in it, and thinning of right frame line near bottom". The "x" variety listed by the 2016 AFA Specialized Catalog (most recent edition as of July 2025; in stock if you would like to have it) essentially represents a couple different specific varieties, including this one. This specific variety is listed by Regeling as C5. This stamp (and all the single-color stamps of this design except the Large-3 which was printed with a 100-subject plate) was printed with a 25-subject plate struck four times to print a sheet. This variety from the 1898 Printing appears in plate position 11, thus it can appear in sheet positions 11, 16, 61, and 66. With the left margin, this has to be from sheet positions 11 or 61, but a secondary feature (the lack of an alignment dot and hole in the left margin) confirms that this must be from sheet position 11. AFA values the "x" variety in NH condition at 2.5 times the normal value. Nicely centered NH examples are hard to find.

24 plate varieties "z, ø, and æ" [1896 5 aur Numeral, perforation 12.75] NH F-VF lower left corner margin 8-block containing three of the four AFA-listed plate varieties (there is a fifth listed variety, but I think that listing was in error). The block is positions 81-841/91-94 with the three varieties in positions 82-83-84. Variety "z" in sheet position 82 "Left frame line bends inward at top and bottom"; "ø" in sheet position 83 "Short right leg of A of ISLAND"; and "æ" in sheet position 84 "Cut off lower left corner, upper left corner dented on left side". The 15-year-old AFA Iceland Specialized listing values the three varieties at a total of DKK 1500 = US$270, plus the other five stamps sell for a total of about $70 in their respective centering. A very unusual block!

25, Facit #25b + variety, AFA 7B.7y [1897 aur gray Numeral, Perforation 12.75, (September 1898; 7th printing of all 6 aur stamps; 2nd printing of this perforation), Gray to Light Gray] NEVER HINGED with XF centering. PLATE VARIETY AFA 7By (color spot and line before N of ISLAND, dent in right frameline). Wonderfully fresh -- this must be from a recently broken block. Well-centered, NH examples of this stamp (Scott #25 in general) are surprisingly hard to find. Wonderfully fresh with excellent centering, great color, perfect perforations, and post office fresh original gum. An exceptional example! [Facit 2022 value SEK 450 for the NH stamp with normal centering; AFA Specialized 2016 (most recent) DKK 800 for the NH variety!]

PLATE VARIETY AFA 7Bx (white spot before P of POST, dent in right frameline near bottom, rounded frameline at bottom right, lower left corner area with several diagonal white cuts). Very fresh and attractive with great color and "perfect" perforations. NH examples of this stamp (Scott #25 in general) are surprisingly hard to find. An excellent example! 29 Clear Blue center, Facit #29a [1900 25 aur Numeral, Perforation 12.75] Mint with VF centering, but regummed and one perforation shorter at LL corner. AFA-listed late variety #21z "heavy wear to right edge of blue oval". AFA 2016 Specialized value for Mint Hinged OG is DKK 650 (US$105 4/2021). The 25 aur plate was made later than most of the other denominations and thus it has very few significant varieties (only two listed by AFA). This variety is very seldom offered; I have not had one in many years.
