196 [1935 5 aur Jochumsson] Used F-VF with nearly complete "(GR)IMSBY LINCS. / 2" 28 March 1938 cancellation (applied on incoming ship mail likely posted at sea on an Icelandic fishing trawler). Also faint part of another strike (also British style). Grimsby is a small port city on the east central coast of England and is seldom seen on Icelandic stamps.

207 Thin Paper (Facit #231v) [1940 45 aur Geyser] NH Superb / VF / F-VF full sheet of 50. Folded once vertically in the center. Plate #1 in the lower left corner and printer imprint at bottom center. This issue had three printings: 1940 on thick paper; 1941 on thin paper (this example); and 1942 on thick paper. The two thick paper printings were 300,000 each, while this thin paper printing was only 200,000 stamps. The Facit value for NH thin paper is four times that of the thick paper (thus one cannot just go by the Scott value). NH VF singles sell for $9.25 ($462.50 for the sheet). Priced far below the break-up value!

212 [1939 5 (aur) Surcharge on 35 aur 1935 Jochumsson] NH VF / Superb upper right 25-block (quarter sheet). This surcharged issue is known for the "35" (the "3" not covered by the surcharge) and the "55" variety (the "5" not covered by the surcharge). [To qualify, the underlying numeral must be completely clear of the surcharge.] These varieties can occur as a result of the surcharge of the whole sheet being shifted. However, as this block demonstrates, certain surcharge positions are not aligned with other positions in the sheet; some of the underlying numerals are more and less exposed than others in the rows above and below. Not "scarce" (though large mint blocks are not often offered), but quite interesting. NH VF stamps are normally $2.50 each. Priced below the $62.50 break-up value.

217 Line Perf 14x14, irregular corners (Facit #240C4) [1941 1 eyr blue green Fish] Used with XF centering and neat cancellation. This "C4" line perforation was made by separate perforator tool strokes to make the horizontal vs vertical perforations, thus the four corner teeth are random in shape and appearance. Furthermore the perforator tool was worn out with bent hole-punches, thus the thickness of the teeth / spacing between the holes can vary. This line-perforated stamp is hard to find with nice centering. Examples this nice are seldom offered.

217 Line Perf 14x14, irregular corners (Facit #240C4) [1941 1 eyr blue green Fish] Used top margin 10-BLOCK with VF/F-VF centering and neat 27 October 1942 cancellations. The top sheet margin shows part of the center registration mark, thus identifying this block as containing positions 1-5 and 10-15. This "C4" line perforation was made by separate perforator tool strokes to make the horizontal vs vertical perforations, thus the four corner teeth are random in shape and appearance -- in this 10-block, one can see that all the perforation intersections are slightly different. Furthermore the perforator tool was worn out with bent hole-punches, thus the thickness of the teeth / spacing between the holes can vary. Blocks of the line-perforated stamps can be hard to find; use blocks even harder, and a 10-block such as this is very seldom seen. The total singles price of the stamps (respective to their centering) in this block would be $47.50, but this is MUCH SCARCER than that!

218 Comb Perf 14x14, narrow perf at top, Grayish Violet (Facit #241C2) [1944 3 aur violet Fish] NH 4-block with F-VF centering. On these issues the perforation differences are most obvious in blocks. This "C2" comb perforation does NOT normally (unless by chance) have a bulls-eye perforation at center of a block; instead the in the center there are usually two nearby perforation holes. The top perforation corner teeth very small (or non-existent) at the sides and the bottom corner teeth are well-formed and wider at the sides. The 3 aur stamps of this perforation type have color in a close range of Grayish Violet, a fact not mentioned in the catalogs. Priced near break-up value.

Wonderfully fresh example with great color, perfect line perforations, and pristine gum. Examples this nice are rarely offered -- and blocks are rarely seen -- but then any examples of this perforation are very scarce! A key stamp in the Fish set; very hard to find NH and well centered.

221 Line Perf 14x14, irregular corners (F#245C4) [1940 10 aur green Fish, Line Perforation 14 x 14 (1941) ] NEVER HINGED PLATE #1 BLOCK OF FOUR with lower left corner margins (the plate number of this printing only appeared in the lower left corner), with XF centering. Wonderfully fresh example with great color, perfect line perforations, and pristine gum. Examples of this stamp or block that are this nice are rarely offered -- and any blocks are rarely seen -- but this is the only example of this plate block that I have seen in 49 years! Any examples of this perforation are very scarce! A key stamp in the Fish set; very hard to find NH and well centered.

Orlof 10 aur Overprint on Scott #221 (Facit #245C2) [10 aur green Fish, comb perf 14x14 thin tooth at top] NH F-VF+. This is the most commonly found Orlof overprinted stamp, however, well centered examples are scarce. The underlying stamp exists with three perforation types, logically however, the only overprinted version recorded is the last one printed. Theoretically other perforations could exist.

Orlof 10 aur Overprint on Scott #221 (Facit #245C2) [10 aur green Fish, comb perf 14x14 thin tooth at top] Mint with VF centering; this example is actually NH, but has an area of gum discoloration (from an old stock page), thus cannot be described as NH. This example looks wonderfully fresh from the front. This is the most commonly found Orlof overprinted stamp, however, well centered examples are scarce. The underlying stamp exists with three perforation types, logically however, the only overprinted version recorded is the last one printed. Theoretically other perforations could exist.

Orlof 20 aur Overprint on Scott #224 (Facit #248C2) [25 aur red Fish, comb perf 14x14 thin tooth at top] Mint without gum, with F-VF centering. I attest that this example is Mint no gum, not Used without cancellation: I soaked it and another stamp apart; both were fully gummed and fully stuck to each other. Very attractive with fresh and bright appearance. The underlying stamp exists with three perforation types, logically however, the only overprinted version recorded is the last one printed. Theoretically other perforations could exist.
