Norway: Gallery: Select Stamps - 1863-1864 Coat Of Arms
Particularly attractive and scarce stamps that will make a wonderful addition to your collection. Most of these issues are not often offered! Unless otherwise stated, Scott Catalog numbers have been used. Mint stamps will have full original gum unless otherwise mentioned. All items are available for viewing on approval.
6 [1863 2 sk Coat of Arms] Used VF horizontal PAIR with neat HAMAR postmarks. Wonderfully rich color and freshness. This issue is scarce in multiples; none of the catalogs value pairs and pairs are not "rare", but to give some perspective, only 7 used 3-strips and only 2 used blocks have been recorded. This stamp is quite difficult to find, even as singles, with such nice color, centering, and freshness. If divided, these stamps would quickly sell for a total of at least $430, but as a pair it is much, much scarcer.

6 [1863 "2 SKILL" Coat of Arms] Used with F-VF centering and remarkably light, neat (FREDR)IKSHALD 1867 cancellation, but with a couple short perforations on right side (where they blend in and are not noticeable). A very pretty example of a very scarce stamp, with quite remarkable, fresh color -- the color is darker and more orange than is usually seen.

8 PAIR (Plate II, Type VIII and VII) Mint with F-VF+ centering, but with only small trace of gum remaining. Each stamp has a thin and the left stamp has a vertical crease on the right frame line that is very hard to see without 10x magnification. Otherwise would sell for around $600 as two singles. Wonderfully bright color and overall fresh appearance.

10 [1863 24 skilling Coat of Arms] Used with F-VF+ centering and a full, VF DRAMMEN 1890s two-ring cancellation, used in the later period. The skilling stamps remained valid for use, converted to the new currency, through March 31, 1908. A very attractive example; this stamp is scarce used in such nice condition, even from the later period.

10 [1863 24 skilling Coat of Arms] Used F-VF on large piece of cover (including part of cover backside) with May 1872 cancellation. Red French "PD" marking and French postmarks on backside indicate that this was sent to France. Though the full cover would be rare and costly, this is priced at only the value of the stamp properly used in the correct time period. Very attractive.
