Scott #111 [1925 10 øre Lion "SVALBARD" (Spitzbergen)] NEVER HINGED with F-VF+ centering. This example shows the rough perforation variety; I estimate that only about 30% of the issue is the rough perforation variety. Very nicely centered for this stamp; only a small percentage of this 10 øre stamp are this well centered or better. Wonderfully fresh with great color and correct, never hinged original gum. While this is not a "scarce" stamp in Mint Hinged or Used condition, it is "scarce" in NH condition. The 2024 Facit Classic assigns this NH stamp a value of SEK 150, which is 3x the Mint Hinged value, but in my experience NH examples are even harder to find than that multiple suggests. Scott #112 [1925 15 øre Lion "SVALBARD" (Spitzbergen)] NEVER HINGED with F-VF centering. This example shows the clean perforation variety; I estimate that only about 70% of the issue is the clean perforation variety. Though this has "only" F-VF centering, this is actually very nicely centered for the 15 øre stamp; for some reason that I do not understand, the 15 øre stamps of this set usually have terrible centering. Wonderfully fresh with great color and correct, never hinged original gum. While this is not a "scarce" stamp in Mint Hinged or Used condition, it is "scarce" in NH condition. The 2024 Facit Classic assigns this NH stamp a value of SEK 150, which is 3x the Mint Hinged value, but in my experience NH examples are even harder to find than that multiple suggests, especially with centering this nice. While this is not a "scarce" stamp in Mint Hinged or Used condition, it is "scarce" in NH condition. In NH condition, this is the key value of the set. The 2024 Facit Classic assigns this NH stamp a value of SEK 250, which is 5x the Mint Hinged value, but in my experience NH examples are even harder to find than that multiple suggests, especially with centering this nice. Scott #118 [1926 20 øre "plum" (deep red violet) Standing Lion, Typographed, Sans-Serif Lettering and Without line between ØRE and POST] Mint original gum with VF centering. Very fresh and bright, with terrific color, excellent moderately hinged gum, and "perfect" perforations (quite scarce on this stamp). This stamp was only in use for a year and had a relatively small printing quantity; it was then replaced, in exactly one year to the day, with the red-colored 20 øre stamp of the same design. Mint supplies of this plum-colored stamp were consumed in normal postal use; it is likely that collectors and dealers did not put aside examples because they had not expected it to be replaced so quickly... but then it was too late! This is the second-scarcest Mint stamp of this set (after the 35 øre olive-brown), but in my experience, nicely centered Mint examples of this stamp are actually harder to find. This stamp is "very scarce" in such attractive quality. ACTUAL item. |

123 [1927 35 øre olive-brown Standing Lion, typographed] NEVER HINGED with F-VF+ centering, but with a one short perforation. The 35 øre olive-brown is the scarcest (Mint, Hinged or NH) stamp in this definitive issue -- it is a key stamp missing from many collections, especially in NH condition. There were ten printings of this stamp resulting in several obvious differences in color and gum. This example is Greenish Olive with White Smooth Gum. NH examples are quite hard to find. Facit 2022 NH value SEK 3200 [about $380 4/2022]. ACTUAL item. |
