Scott #6, Facit #7e1 (Medium, Grayish) Bluish Green [1858 5 öre "Vapen" Coat of Arms, 1866 Printing] Used with XF-Superb centering. Wonderfully fresh, an excellent-looking example of this color, with "almost perfect" centering, and "perfect" (irregular) perforations for this issue with NO teeth missing. The cancellation device was very worn and thus the cancellation is not readable. However, the small circumference of the cancellation suggests an earlier device style which would certainly have been well-worn by 1866. This Facit #7e1 1866 printing has the "1855" perforations which are always irregular and often have broken / missing perforating pins (as seen by the "blind" perforation hole at top). The irregular (narrow and wide) perforation teeth and the blind holes can be used as an aid in plating the "1855" perforation stamps. (In 1870 the same color appeared again, listed by Facit as #7e2, but with the more regular "1865" perforations.) Though this is not a "scarce" color / printing, examples this nice are quite hard to find. An outstanding example of this stamp.

Scott #6, Facit #7d Light Green [1858 5 öre "Vapen" Coat of Arms, 1864-1867 Printing] Used with XF centering and an "almost perfectly" centered 21 June 1870 WENERSBORG cancellation (also with a tiny part of a second cancellation strike). Wonderfully fresh, an excellent-looking example of this color, with excellent centering, and "perfect" perforations. The Facit #7d 2024 listing does not correspond to the Nordisk Filateli color images pages produced ca.1980. There have been some Facit number reassignments since then. This printing / color was only made with the "1855" perforations -- the 1855 perforations are almost always irregular and often have broken / missing perforating pins, but this example has absolutely perfect perforation teeth. This is a "slightly scarcer" color / printing and examples this nice are quite hard to find. An excellent example of this stamp.

Scott #6, Facit #7f Light Yellow Green [1858 5 öre "Vapen" Coat of Arms, 1872-1873 Printing] Used with VF centering, with a neat, partial 22 April 1872 FJEL(LB)ACKA cancellation -- a somewhat scarcer town. Wonderfully fresh and bright, an excellent-looking example of this darker end of the spectrum for this color, with excellent centering, and "perfect" perforations. This printing is the only one for this stamp that utilized the new "1875" perforating machine. This is a somewhat scarcer color of the 5 öre.

6 Light Green [1858 5 öre Coat of Arms] Used with F-VF centering and very well centered and crisp AVESTA 6 May 1871 cancellation (almost perfectly centered vertically, just a little too the left to be called a Superb cancellation). While this town is not scarce, such nice cancellations on this stamp are unusual. Perfect perforations and fresh color. A very attractive example!

Scott #6, Facit #7f Light Yellow Green [1858 5 öre "Vapen" Coat of Arms, 1872-1873 Printing] Used with Superb centering, but with a small tear in the bottom margin. This example of the color is at the absolute extreme of the "light" end of the spectrum for this Facit listing. Two crisp strikes of a LAHO(LM) cancellation. Wonderfully fresh and bright appearance, an excellent-looking example of this color, with "perfect" centering, and "perfect" perforations. This printing is the only one for this stamp that utilized the new "1875" perforating machine. While the small tear is unfortunate, it is hard to see when it is in the album. This is a somewhat scarcer color and if not for the tear, this wonderful-looking quality would easily fetch $40.

Scott #6, Facit #7b2 (Dark) Green, 1865 Perforations [1858 5 öre "Vapen" Coat of Arms, 1867-1869 Printing] Used with SUPERB CENTERING, but with a thin and a very tiny (nearly invisible) margin tear. With an "almost perfectly" centered 11 September 1969 HEMSE ("VERY SCARCE") cancellation (and also with an extremely tiny part of a second cancellation strike). Wonderfully nice appearance and an excellent-looking example of this color, with fabulous centering, and excellent perforations. The Facit #7b2 2024 listing DOES correspond exactly to the Nordisk Filateli color images pages produced ca.1980 for the color, but back in 1980 they did not know about some of the 1855 vs 1865 perforation differences. This color was produced with both the "1855" and "1865" perforations. This example has the 1865 perforations. The 1855 perforations are almost always irregular and often have broken / missing perforating pins. The stamps of this printing are "slightly scarcer" than some other colors / printings of the 5 öre, but they are often misrepresented as the much scarce Dark Green of Scott #6a (Facit #7a). Though the stamp does have some (hidden) faults, it is a beautiful example with an almost perfect strike of a "very scarce" town cancellation. Without the quality problems, the otherwise Superb stamp and Superb, scarce cancellation would easily sell for $100.

7 Blue Violet (Facit #8d) [1858 9 öre Coat of Arms] Mint with F-VF centering and so lightly hinged you may not be able to find the hinge mark even with a 10x magnifying glass. Accompanied by a 2012 Helena Obermüller-Wilén certificate stating that it is mint with original gum, with a SFF grade of 3,3,4 and with the comment that translates to "A very beautiful and fresh example". It really is an extremely nice example of a stamp that is quite scarce in such fresh condition.

Scott #8 Blue, Clear Print, Dense Background [1858 12 öre blue Coat of Arms] Used with F-VF centering. Strong color and excellent "1855 type" perforations. SUPERBLY STRUCK WEXIÖ 1 July 1859 RECTANGULAR / BOXED CANCELLATION DATED EXACTLY ONE YEAR AFTER THE FIRST DAY OF ISSUE OF THIS STAMP DESIGN.This style of cancellation had five types (illustrated in SFF Handbook 23 on rectangular cancellations), four of which are known (per Facit Postal X) used on this stamp, but only Types 1, 3, and 4, are known used as late as 1859. This example appears to be a Type 4, but the type differences are hard to differentiate without examples of all of them for comparison. All the three or four types known on this stamp have fairly similar catalog values in the range of SEK 250-400 per Facit Postal X. However, the catalog values are for more typical looking examples than this incredible, Superb cancellation strike. Complete town name and date; rare completeness and quality -- on a single loose stamp -- for this style of cancellation. A beautiful example! This is certainly one of the best-struck, if not the best-struck, rectangular / boxed style cancellations on this stamp that I have been able to offer in 53 years! The one-year-birthday cancellation is icing on the philatelic cake.

11 Rose Brown (Scott 2018 Classic #11b) (Facit #11g) [1858 30 öre Coat of Arms] Mint, NEVER HINGED, original gum, with F-VF centering. Accompanied by a 2012 Helena Obermüller-Wilén certificate stating that it is mint with original gum, never hinged ("postfrisk"), with a SFF grade of 3,3,5 and with the comment that translates to "A very beautiful and fresh example". Wonderful delicate color, perfect perforations, and perfect gum (with the expected "pooling" of the later printings). While mint examples of this workhorse stamp are offered in the market, they are usually dingy and shopworn, and rarely NH -- NH examples are very scarce. Facit 2018 value SEK 9000 for least costly printing. An outstanding example with freshness rarely seen!

11 GROUP OF 6 COLORS [1858 30 öre Coat of Arms] Used group of 6 F-VF (or better) centered stamps, each with a different color/shade. Colors range from Browns to Dark Red Brown (Scott 11a) to Light Rose Red Brown (Scott 11b, Facit 11c -- scarce, Facit 2020 value SEK 1000). These six colors include the scarcest color and make up the majority of the ten Facit-listed colors (which some consider to be only eight different colors; see the Facit listing). Scott #11 Light Red Brown, Facit #11b [1858 30 öre Coat of Arms] Used with Superb centering and neat 17 August 1860 cancellation, but with a couple of short perforations. The cancellation date limits the color/printing possibilities to Facit #11a, b, and c: dark red brown, red brown, and light pinkish red brown. Though this initially looks like the third color -- which is very scarce -- this is darker than that, but this is certainly not the dark red brown. Despite that, the color of this example is lighter than the "regular" red brown and is quite distinctive. An attractive example, that with this centering would otherwise be $45 if not for the short perforations. Offered at a very low price.

12a Dark Carmine, "1855 Perforations" [1858 50 öre Coat of Arms] Mint VF, but without gum (typical). Great "1855" perforations (variable tooth size and blind perfs) and incredible color! (The carmine colors, Scott #12a, were perforated on an older machine with many bent or missing teeth, resulting in an irregular perforation appearance. These are referred to as "1855 perforations" in the literature. The machine was replaced in 1865.) The Facit 2015 value (with gum) for the Carmines ranges SEK 6000-8000 (12/14 US$900-1200). Very pretty!
