Denmark: Cancellations: By Type - Star: A-D  
Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise indicated. Cancellations starting with the letter "Å", "Æ" and "Ø" are at the end of the alphabet. These listings are just a random tiny fraction of the thousands of Danish cancellations that I have in stock. If you are seeking specific numbers, towns, or types of cancellations, or cancels on specific stamps, please send your want list. All these items and much more are available for viewing on approval; please request approvals.
Star cancels are so named because they contain a star design in the center. (Later the stars were removed and also new cancels were made without the center star -- those are the "starless" type called "uds" for the Danish term "udslebne".) These types of postmarks were used at small places that did not have post offices, such as tiny railway stations or mailbag pick-up points, general stores on rural mail routes, etc. Almost by definition they were used at places with small populations and thus many are scarce. They have been popularly collected and cataloged for many years. The current primary reference is "Stjernestempler", available from me. The cancel numbers shown are from that catalog. I have a large stock of both star and starless (uds) cancellations and am happy to send approvals. I cannot even begin to list all that I have; this listing is just a random tiny fraction of what I have stock. View EXACT ACTUAL Image		 62 [1912 10 øre Wavy-Lines / Numeral with Crown Watermark] (Fine) on 14 December 1912 picture post card (H. [Helga] Tesch artist-signed; 3 children, youngest has crashed sled; girl gives aid while boy stands by unemotional -- a classic!) with VF BIRKET star (larger of the two) cancellation Skilling #0138, with dated HORSLUNDE side cancellation, to "Detroit Harbor, Door County, Wisconsin" U.S. Quite a scarce star cancel (Skilling on-cover value DKK 500 in 2007); there are not many star cancellations up at this value level. A very nice item for the cancellation, but also nice for the card.
