Scott #O11a [1937 7 øre Typographed Official] (VF) solo use on 24 September 1938 printed matter (faint violet "Trykte Saker") cover from the Nidaros School "Direktør" Office, to the Glåmos School Board at Jensvoll, but forwarded to a town name I cannot read (Ny... It may be "Nyplad" a historical school house in the Trondheim area that still exists as a cultural location). [Nidaros is the historic name for Trondheim.] The only Jensvoll I can find on modern maps is just north of the Arctic Circle, so THIS Jensvoll was probably a tiny community near one of the other locations on the cover. Mailed at ÅSEN, with a bridge-no-vertical-lines cancellation. With a couple of the filing holes often seen on official mail. This is a "scarcer" stamp even as a Used single off cover; would be $27 off the cover! On cover it is seldom offered. I think I have had only three or four examples on cover in 53 years (since 1973). This cover deserves more research to fully understand the places involved. ACTUAL item. |

Scott #O21, O18a [1933 100 øre Lithographed Official; 1935 40 øre Typographed Official] (XF-VF) on 17 December 1936 MONEY LETTER cover from the tax authorities in Sør-Trøndelag with three ornate was seals on the reverse from that tax office. The three wax seals were required for this type of envelope back-flaps; five wax seals were required for traditional types of envelopes in which the four back segments met at a point the middle. This cover contained 1768.12 KR of currency. On the backside is a distribution list, with four recipient signatures, showing how the all the funds were dispersed by the "head cashier" addressee. I cannot recall ever before, in 53 years, seeing such a money disbursement list on a cover. Sent to a village name that appears to be Langlek, but I cannot find such a location -- it must be located in the Sør-Trøndelag region because of the money disbursement by that tax authority. Mailed at "TRONDHEIM / Bko", with a bridge-with-vertical-lines style of cancellation. The "Bko" in the cancellation refers to "banko brev" or "money letter". The money letter system apparently operated somewhat similarly to the registered mail system (which was for documents, not valuables), but with much higher security requirements. Registered "R" numbered postal labels were used -- before/when "V" insurance numbered postal labels were available or had not yet come into use -- to supply the tracking number for the item, but the "R" segment at left was removed as this was to be handled more securely than a registered letter. The 100 øre stamp is "very scarce" on cover. The Facit Classic 2024 on-cover value starts at SEK 300, but I can only recall having one or two examples on cover in 53 years (since 1973). An outstanding cover that would be a key item in an Official Mail collection. ACTUAL item. |
