Scott #201A [1946 55 øre orange Lion] (VF) solo used on 21 December 1962 AIRMAIL (note the faint blue postal handstamp at on on the front at top center) unsealed PRINTED MATTER cover to the U.S. Sent from the post office; it had contained a new stamp issue announcement. Canceled with an "OSLO Br." pictorial CHRISTMAS text-machine cancellation; Alternating "God Jul" and candle and wavy-lines. The annual Norwegian Christmas cancellations are avidly collected. The recorded towns for each year and their dates of use are recorded. Reference: Finn Aune, 2007, "Norske Maskinstempler med Tekst 1904-2004" (I normally have this book in stock). Correct 55 øre franking for 20 grams airmail printed matter to the U.S.: 35 øre surface printed matter to 50 grams, 1 Apr 1959 thru 28 Feb 1968; plus 20 øre airmail surcharge to the U.S. per 20 grams, 1 Apr 1959 thru at least 30 June 1971 when the airmail surcharge system changed. Though this stamp was first issued in 1946, any solo use, in any period, is "unusual". ACTUAL item. |
