Norway: Cancellations: By Type - Town - Early Single Ring T-Z
Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise indicated. NK = Norgeskatalogen numbers. Cancellations starting with the letter "Å" and "Ø" are at the end of the alphabet. All these items and much more are available for viewing on approval; please request approvals.
The most recent listing of single-ring town cancellations appears in the 2008 (and before in 2004) Norgeskatalogen, which I may still have available for sale. Please inquire.
Scott #20 [1875 6 skilling Posthorn] Used with SUPERB CENTERING and with almost full and well-centered TROMSØ single-ring, 24 mm large circle, town name in serif type, date sans-serif; NK Type 1b) 11 March 1877 proper-period cancellation. The NK Postal II catalog lists the cancellation in the Skilling Posthorn period with a rarity rating of 3, thus harder to find. Because of the larger size of this postmark, it is hard to find so complete and well centered on a single stamp. Wonderful centering, great color, excellent perforations, and a wonderful cancellation -- it would be very hard to find one that is better!
