1.  New Additions to the Website Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
2006 Scandinavian Year Packs are now in stock for all countries except Norway (that is expected any day). Links to the appropriate pages are listed below. In some cases the post office did not include all issued stamps -- that 99% of collectors do want! -- in the year packs; I have yet to finish adding those items to the website, but I will assume that you want them and will send them along for your consideration.

(A year "pack" is the official post-office-issued package of the stamps of the year. A year "set" is a privately made-up group of the same stamps. For the most recent issues, the price of the year "pack" is the same as a year "set". However, the "pack" package itself can increase in value over time, thus it is a good idea to get the year "pack" at least as long as they cost the same.)

3.  Sweden-Germany Joint Issue: Hanseatic League & Proofprint Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

Other image links below.
(Ordering information below.)

Sweden and Germany have cooperated in a joint issue commemorating the 650th anniversary of the Hanseatic League. This organization, originally a guild of late middle ages merchants, was central to the development of commercial activity in Northern Europe and greatly improved commercial connections between Sweden and Germany. They had an important outpost at Visby, on the Swedish island of Gotland, in the 12th century. In 1356, the Hanse was reformed from being a guild of individual merchants into an organization for cities, the Hanseatic League. (Information from Swedish post office.)

Because of the popular thematic elements of the design, the general demand for joint issues, and the demand from collectors of German-related issues, I expect these items to sell out quickly.

The Swedish stamps are issued only in a booklet of four stamps: three different designs, one of which is repeated but with different perforation (thus to collectors of Sweden it is a different stamp).

The German stamps were issued only in a souvenir sheet of ten stamps, which I offer as the individual stamp or the full souvenir sheet.

The official Swedish FDC also includes the German stamp.

Sweden has also used the engraved portions of the stamps' designs for a very attractive proofprint in brown (it would be called a blackprint, but it is brown). Most collectors do not yet know that the proofprint exists.
Please order via email (except for the proofprint, these are not yet on the shopping cart system). Usual shipping and handling terms apply (please specifically note the costs for orders under $40).

4.  Denmark Postal History Book
Almost sold out!
Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

(Ordering information below.)

Sometimes an important book comes along but goes out of print before most people realize its value... This is just such a case: a book of great value to all collectors and students of Danish covers and postal history.

Because the book is in English, most of the marketing and distribution efforts seem to have been focused on English-speaking countries. I am not aware of any significant efforts to tell collectors in Denmark about this great book! When they eventually widely discover its existence, they will be disheartened to learn how hard to obtain it will have become.

Published in the United Kingdom by a "charitable trust" that is "devoted to the history of the postal services", the publisher's main goal seems to be quickly selling out. While my attitude may be a bit cynical, this book is of such importance that it is a shame that it will soon be very difficult to obtain (and will soon probably significantly rise in value/cost).

My stock today is currently down to just a couple copies. I have just received confirmation that 10 more copies are being shipped to me, but that this is the end of the line; that the publisher will now be out.

If you have been thinking about getting this book (it is a bit costly), stop thinking and act! The holidays are almost here: you deserve to get this as a gift for yourself!

An Introduction to the Postal History of Denmark 1624-1950
(Cornelius, 2004) To call this massive 344-page, large-format book an "introduction" is misleading. This masterwork provides a wealth of valuable information from which even experienced philatelists will learn much. Entirely in ENGLISH, well-illustrated, hardbound. Well written and enjoyable to read (sometimes unusual in philatelic books). Covering every conceivable aspect of postal history, transport, rates, geo-political postal matters, types of postmarks, all the postal services, and much more. I am told that this is a limited printing of 300 copies. Though costly (high price, small discount, and tremendous shipping cost to get it to the U.S.), this is one book that should be required for every collector of Denmark postal history. Get it soon -- or forget about ever getting it! #13174 $99.00

5.  U.S. Postal Service Sheet / Panel / Page Binders Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
This is one of those items that if you know what it is you probably need more of them, but if you don't know what it is you probably have no use for it.

The U.S. Postal Service for years offered deluxe padded 23-ring binders as part of their programs in which they sell: full sheets of stamps, commemorative panels, or souvenir pages. The binders are light brown in color, have 23 rings, are about 1.75 inches thick and about 10.75 x 12 inches overall dimension. They are designed to hold plastic pages/holders measuring about 9.75 x 11.5 inches, and are large enough for U.S. full sheets and commemorative panels, etc. In typical use, a binder will hold about 20 sheets/panels/pages single-sided or perhaps as many as 40 double-sided. If a binder contained only single-thickness paper, it would hold a lot more. The construction is very heavy duty and the appearance is quite handsome. If you had to buy something like this new, today, they would probably cost at least $40 each!

I have a quantity of these binders available WITHOUT any pages or holders of any type in them. All that I have are in virtually like-new condition. If you have subscribed to the post office services and have some of these binders, it is likely that the ones you have are over-full and you need more into which to transfer some of what you have (what I offer has NO pages or holders). Here is your opportunity.

Over the years, there have been small differences in the style of these binders. However, on the bookshelf, they look enough alike to match nicely. I have from one to many of several of these slightly different styles; I have listed the one that I have most of. If you prefer a slightly different style, tell me how yours are different and I will see if I can match it.

"AMERICAN COMMEMORATIVE COLLECTIONS" USPS 23-Ring Binder
Does NOT contain any pages. USPS logo on spine facing sideways, "AMERICAN COMMEMORATIVE COLLECTIONS" on spine. Logo and same text (5.5 inches wide) on front. Silver-colored 23-ring mechanism, in an oval shape. Includes page lifters, but no pages or holders.

$10.00 each, per one
$8.00 each, per two
$6.00 each, per five
$5.00 each, per ten
$4.00 each, per twenty

If you are not fussy about exact style match, you can have them at $4.00 each per five.

Please email your order. Thank you.

Please keep in mind that these are heavy and that they do NOT qualify for media mail shipping; the shipping choices in the U.S. will be Parcel Post or Priority Mail, both of which vary greatly with distance from the mailing location.

Tip: If you have access to a paper drill like those used by print shops, you can drill any type of paper to fit any type of binder. At these prices, you could cheaply drill pages and make your own sturdy large-page-size album binders as long as you don't mind the text on them.

6.  Gift Certificates Available Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

7.  Special Offers: Collections & Albums -- Great Buys Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
See listings down a couple inches...

I am constantly buying large and small Scandinavian, U.S., and Worldwide. If you are considering getting into a new area and would like a "starter collection" (whether small or large), let me know about your interest. Also, if you are seeking used binders or used empty albums to match what you currently have, again, let me know. In the process of buying Scandinavian collections, many of my long-time clients (or their estates) ask that I assist in selling the non-Scandinavian portion of their collections. If there is something you are looking for, just let me know. Take a look at the current listings on the web site (but if you don't see your interest listed, please inquire -- most have not been listed on the web site yet).

I guarantee your satisfaction. Each item is one of a kind; orders will be filled in order of receipt. Payment by MasterCard or Visa suggested, but I will hold items for 10 days pending receipt of your check or money order if you prefer.
