Take a look -- there is something for everybody!

I have recently added many hundreds of interesting U.S. and Worldwide Stamps to the website.

The United States section has many recently added very nice 1880s-1930s issues in excellent condition. Start at the U.S. Table of Contents.

In the Worldwide arena, the new items emphasize British Commonwealth stamps (with quite a bit of South Pacific) and especially Used stamps on issues where Used is often very difficult to obtain. Start at the Worldwide Table of Contents.

The most recent additions have been to: Bahrain, Cyprus, Czechoslovakia, Falkland Islands, Fiji, France, German States, Germany (East, DDR, GDR), Gilbert & Ellice Islands, Hong Kong, Italian States, Jamaica, Japan, KUT, Leeward Islands, Malagasy Republic, New Guinea, New Hebrides, New Zealand, North West Pacific Islands, Northern Rhodesia, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Island, Portugal, Russian Offices Abroad, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Straits Settlement, Tonga, and Tristan da Cunha.

If "your" country is not in that list, take a look a the Worldwide Table of Contents anyway. There are thousands of stamps listed -- "your" country is sure to be included.

Large United States, Canada, and GB Stamp Collection

I am finalizing the purchase of a large collection that contains an important range of 1870s-1930s mint and used U.S. stamps. For example, there is a $1 "Cattle in Storm" that is so lightly canceled that the previous owner thought it was unused! While these stamps will eventually (as I have time) make their way onto the website, I strongly encourage you to send your U.S. want list. This way you will get first pick from this great collection. I will be happy to send stamps on approval from your want list, in the condition and quality you prefer, and up to the dollar limit and frequency that you specify. This is by far the best and most convenient way to add to your collection.

The collection also includes a terrific range of mint Canada including a wonderful "Bluenose" and virtually all the key stamps of the 1890s-1940s. Please send your complete Canada want list, including other time periods and used stamps too.

While the Great Britain portion of the collection was never fully mounted in albums, the is a wonderful range of remarkably fresh and bright early mint 1880s-1930s stamps. For example, there is a stunning, mint lightly hinged "One Pound PUC" that would thrill any GB collector. Please send your GB want list, including other time periods and used stamps too.

U.S. and Worldwide COVERS: I recently purchased a large dealer stock of U.S. and Worldwide covers. This well-organized stock emphasizes usages from the early 1800s up to the 1950s. There is something from just about everywhere, and many unusual destination usages too.

Due to lack of time, it will probably be a long time before I start listing these covers on the website. However, if you are an avid cover collector, I will be happy to send on approval the covers from your areas / topics of interest. This is the best way to add to your collection. Please let me know what type of material is of interest: Countries (and U.S. States); types of usages; topics/thematics; etc.

This stock has been distilled to contain mostly "better" covers in the $10-and-up range. Most are in the $5-40 neighborhood, but with some values up to $200.

While there are at least a few items in every conceivable category, the strengths include:

U.S. Early 1800s-1930s organized by State and Usage.
France & Switzerland are very strong.
   Western Europe.
Turkey, Turkish Empire, and covers from all around the world to Turkey. (The previous owner lived in Turkey for a while.)
Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait: emphasis on parcel cards with incredible high-value frankings sent home by foreign workers. There are some rare items in this section!
Airmails: flights and airmail usages, worldwide.
British Commonwealth / Colonies, with emphasis on usages from smaller countries.
And just about any country you can imagine.

Please send along a description of your interests.

German Stamps: Though they did not make the deadline for this edition of the E-News, in a few more days (certainly by 3 July) I will be adding a strong range of NH, Mint Hinged, and Used German stamps to the website. There is an especially nice range of used stamps -- where the postmark is an issue, I illustrate the actual item.

Be sure to look (again) in a few days, but there are already 12 pages of German Stamps listings -- hundreds of items -- on the website, so take a look now as well.

Germany Stamps start here.
Germany - Berlin Stamps start here.
GDR / DDR / East Germany Stamps start here.
German States Stamps start here.
German Colonies Stamps start here.

I should also mention that I have a reasonably comprehensive stock of German stamps priced from $0.25 to $4.00 that are not on the website due to the labor cost of putting them on. However, I welcome want lists for such stamps and I would be happy to send approvals from your German want list.

Want Lists:

There are now 1603 pages on the www.JaySmith.com website! While that is a large number (and those pages contain tens of thousands of stamps, covers, and related items), the site is still what I like to call "a faint shadow of its future self". In the Scandinavian realm, the site certainly represents no more than 5% of our inventory (and perhaps not even 2%)! In the U.S. and Worldwide area, it is harder to know, but percentage is probably even smaller.

These statistics emphasize the importance of sending your want list. While I continue to work at expanding the listings on the website, the reality is that, without a single additional purchase, I could work for many years, 80 hours per week, on adding to the site and still not catch up! In the meantime, all those great stamps and covers are here waiting for you! All you need to do is let me know what you are seeking. Please send your want list!

Naturally want lists for Scandinavia are most welcome. However, U.S. & Canada want lists are welcome as well. The website does not even begin to suggest the depth and breadth of my U.S. and Canada inventory. I am prepared to send approvals from want lists for Scandinavia, U.S., and Canada stamps.

As for the rest of the world, my usual refrain is: "The worldwide stamps that are prepared for sale are listed on the website." That is slowly changing. The economic reality is that for NON-Scandinavia, NON-U.S., and NON-Canada stamps, I can't afford the labor cost to put "one-off" items priced below $4 on the website. However, I am slowly building a "prepared for sale" stock of such stamps (from $0.25 to $4.00) that can be sent on approval. At this moment, the only reasonably "productive" part of this stock is Germany; so send your German want list.

However, please do let me know of any countries that you collect for which you are seriously seeking a significant range of the "normal" stamps. This information will guide me in setting priorities for breaking down collections and offering the stamps you may be seeking. [The more I know about your interests, the more helpful I can be. However, if you are only seeking postmarks from Ubangi or only the great rarities, there is little chance I can offer items as a result of breaking down "normal" stamp collections.] I have dozens of nice country collections waiting to be broken down and the stamps offered for sale; if you tell me what you are seeking, I may be able to help you.

3.  Special Offers: Collections & Albums -- Great Buys Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

I am constantly buying large and small Scandinavian, U.S., and Worldwide collections. If you are considering getting into a new area and would like a "starter collection" (whether small or large), let me know about your interest. Also, if you are seeking used binders or used empty albums to match what you currently have, again, let me know. In the process of buying Scandinavian collections, many of my long-time clients (or their estates) ask that I assist in selling the non-Scandinavian portion of their collections. If there is something you are looking for, just let me know. Take a look at the current listings on the web site (but if you don't see your interest listed, please inquire -- most have not been listed on the web site yet).

I guarantee your satisfaction. Each item is one of a kind; orders will be filled in order of receipt. Payment by MasterCard or Visa suggested, but I will hold items for 10 days pending receipt of your check or money order if you prefer.

#731533   Denmark Used Collection 1854-1976
Over 400 different used neatly mounted on Minkus pages. This includes a few better values (#12, 15, 19, etc.), some useful medium values, and many commemoratives. Except for a couple of early issues with minor faults, condition is nearly all F-VF or better with later issues virtually all VF. Scott 2008 retail will exceed $650. You can fill many spaces very economically with this one! $149.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731513   Faroe NH VF Complete Collection 1975-1991 in White Ace Album
Great, complete NH VF collection of the early years of Independent Faroe stamps. In mounts (some clear, some black) on White Ace pages in Faroe White Ace Binder, with White Ace slipcase. The spine of the binder is marred (but otherwise the binder is quite serviceable), thus neither the binder or slipcase are counted in the value. The stamps are complete 1975-1991, but the pages run through 1994. JSA retail of the stamps, souvenir sheets, and booklets totals $360 -- there is a lot of value here! A terrific opportunity to get started with Faroe at a very reasonable price! $235.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731534   Finland Used Collection 1866-1976
Over 575 different used, neatly mounted on Minkus pages. Useful range of all periods with a strong showing of post-war commemoratives and semi-postals. A large part of the value is in the semi-postals which are much scarcer used than mint. Except for a couple of 19th Century issues with minor faults, condition is clean and sound, F-VF or better with the later issues virtually all VF. Scott 2008 retail for the regular issues is over $350, plus JSA retail for the used semi-postals is $217. The price for these as a collection therefore offers you a significant savings. $179.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731515   Greenland NH VF Collection in Hingeless Schaubek Album
Handsome Greenland collection, substantially complete 1974-2006, with all stamps in pristine NH VF / Superb condition. The pages are the complete Schaubek hingeless (with mounts) page set from 1905 through 2006 in a handsome blue 6-post Schaubek binder with slipcase. The binder, slipcase, and pages are all in like-new condition and have a new retail value of over $250! JSA retail of the stamps and souvenir sheets totals $910. There is a lot of value here! This will be a terrific start on your Greenland collection, at a tremendous savings. Greenland continues to be one of the most popular collecting areas! $679.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731508   Iceland Collection Balance on Scott Pages 1876-1982
Over 100 different, mint and used, neatly mounted on clean, usable Scott Specialty 2-post album pages. Somewhat scattered; most of the value is prior to 1950 and includes some useful medium to better values. Condition, with a few exceptions, is nearly all F-VF or better with much VF. A nice starter selection suitable for continuation and expansion. $79.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731532   Iceland Used Collection 1876-1975
Neatly mounted collection of 269 different used on Minkus pages. This one includes many older medium to better values and a strong showing of later colorful commemoratives. There are a few slight condition problems, but overall F-VF or better with later issues virtually all VF. Scott 2008 retail is $1147. Here is an opportunity to fill many spaces at a huge savings over individual retail prices! $295.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731499   Norway Collection in Safe Dual Hingeless Albums 1856-2005
FOUR VOLUME collection on Safe "Dual" Hingeless album pages -- paper pages with clear plastic overlay pages allowing you to place stamps in the plastic pages and also on the paper pages if you wish. Click here to see what this type of page looks like. Contained in four handsome Safe "Morocco" binders, three of them blue and one black. The stamps consist of about 900 mostly different (a few are present both mint and used) mixed Mint and Used stamps starting with 1856 issues. The stamps run to about 2000, but the album pages continue through 2005. Quality is generally F-VF or better, with the majority VF. The total 2008 Scott value of the stamps is over $830!! The pages need a bit of explaining: The 1855-1997 paper pages bear the original owners markings including the catalog number. Those pages are generally in good to excellent condition, and an interim owner found them to be quite suitable. If those pages were new, they would have a list price of over $375 -- but I have not counted them at all in the selling price! (Individual replacement paper pages can be obtained from the album publisher if desired.) All the plastic pages are in excellent condition. From 1997-2005 the pages are like-new and that section alone has a new retail value of more than $110. The binders are well cared for and are in excellent used condition -- The four binders have a total new list price of over $180! There is a lot of value here: Stamps $830 PLUS Album $375 + $110 + $180. Count it however you like, but you will agree that this price is a terrific bargain! $379.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731507   Norway Collection Balance on Scott Pages 1872-1983
Over 300 different, a few mint but mostly used, neatly mounted on clean usable Scott 2-post album pages. Most of the value is prior to 1955, including some useful medium values, #16-17, 23, 27, 35, 36, etc. Condition varies on the early issues; overall condition is mostly F-VF or better with a large percentage VF. A nice representation suitable for continuation and expansion. $59.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731535   Norway Used Collection 1856-1976
Over 600 different used, neatly mounted on Minkus pages. Strong range of 19th Century including #3-5, 8-18, 20-4, 26-32, etc. Later issues include a strong range of commemoratives and some useful back-of-book. Except typical scattered minor faults in the early issues with some sound, all presentable, and overall much better than usual for this time period. The 20th Century is sound and F-VF or better with much VF. Scott 2008 retail totals over $1600, so this should be an excellent value for filling many spaces at a significant savings! $375.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731509   Sweden Collection on Scott Pages 1872-1957
Over 450 different, mint and used, neatly mounted on clean usable Scott Specialty 2-post album pages. This contains a useful range of late 19th and early 20th century issues with some medium to better values, such as #21, 27, 41, 66, etc. The 1932-57 period is fairly well filled in including more than a dozen mint sets. There are just a few scattered stamps from 1958-76, but the pages are complete through 1983. There are a few minor condition problems in the oldest issues, but overall it is F-VF or better with later issues nearly all VF. This collection is quite suitable for continuation and expansion, particularly if you can use a set of Sweden Specialty pages. $159.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

Condition is generally F-VF or better with a large percentage VF. Scott 2008 retail totals $228.40. Nice representation of this remote island area! $69.00

PLUS about 45 different Christmas Island 1958-1997 on Scott pages that run to 1986. Includes both older and modern issues with some complete sets. We note only a couple of minor faults; condition is nearly all F-VF or better with later issues all VF. Scott 2008 retail totals $287. An attractive selection of these far-flung islands! $89.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731495   Russia Arctic and Antarctic Cover and Card Collection
Fascinating collection of 84 items, with emphasis on government-issued postal stationery (mix of mint and used). Every item has an Arctic or Antarctic connection in the postmark, usage, illustration, etc. Most of this type of Russian postal stationery is illustrated and thus fit nicely into Polar and/or thematic collections. The items range from the 1970s to the early 1990s. Thematics include polar bears, sled dogs, helicopters and airplanes, icebreakers and other ships, submarines, reindeer, native peoples, polar birds and animals, petroleum, maps, explorers, science and scientists, etc. While there may be a few items worth only a couple dollars each, many/most are worth at least several dollars each. One of the most interesting groups of such items that I have seen in many years. $249.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

Most of these books are one-of-a-kind, thus be sure to order early. This is just a tiny glimpse of the used books available. Please take a look at the complete Literature Specials price list -- it has much more to offer. I welcome your want list for any Scandinavian books you are seeking. "New" books will be in brand-new condition. "Used" books will be used, though in attractive and serviceable condition; these books may contain minor owner's marks and have typical wear, but any significant defects will be noted in the description. Most "used" books are in much better condition than you might think; many are pristine.

#731527   AFA Iceland Specialized Catalog 1997 (English Translation)
(AFA, SPF, Smith; 1997) Translated, revised, and completely updated listings from the 1995 (Danish) Specialized Catalog. In my opinion, the best Iceland catalog for issues to 1940. Stamps, plate varieties, cover and postal history pricing, postal rates, early cancels, etc. Completely in English. (New is in stock: #1571, $44.50) Used; the binding is just a little worn, but the pages are fresh. Despite the age, there is information in here that is nowhere else. $17.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731529   Scandinavian Revenue Stamps Volume I
(Nelson, 1983) Danish West Indies, Faroes, Greenland, Iceland, Norway. This is THE standard reference (still) for the revenues of these countries (except Norway which now has a new catalog). Gently used copy of the hardbound reprint edition; there are only a couple insignificant collector marks in the Iceland pages, otherwise absolutely like new. (New copies of the hardbound reprint edition are in stock for $24.00 if you prefer [#10036].) $15.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731530   Scotts Stamp Monthly Magazines 1932-1935
Group of 9 different copies ranging from June 1932 (Volume 13, Number 4) to August 1935 (Volume 17, Number 6). At this time, the magazine was really a "house organ" with only Scott advertising. It lists all the new stamps (in just a couple pages in each issue!!!!) and presents new discoveries in a folksy way. Every issue has interesting articles and columns. There is a very interesting article on the Pony Express and another on why Duck Stamps are needed (before the first one was issued). The editors dared to say things that our friends at Scott Publishing would not say today. They are fascinating and loads of fun to read -- I looked at every page; I just could not put them down. Take a trip back in time! All 9 magazines are in Superb condition. $18.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731531   The Observers Book of Postage Stamps
(Anthony S.B. New, 1967; 1968 reprint) Tiny (3.75 x 5.75 x .7 inches, 240 pages) hardbound book. A British-published (this edition apparently for the U.S. market) introduction to philately that is completely readable (unlike some). This is not a "terms and definitions" book. It is an overview that takes the reader through the story of stamps. I wonder how many thousands of collectors were started by this book? Even the "advanced" collector of today will learn something from this book. The only example I have seen in 35 years! Near-new condition. $12.00
