Scott #O34 (or #O23) [1941 7 øre Official #O34 Unwatermarked or #O23 Watermarked] (VF) on 11 July 1942 unsealed printed matter cover marked "Trykksaker", from MOLDE to TINGVOLL. On 13 July (postmark on reverse) forwarded from Tingvoll to Angvik. (Angik is a couple/few kilometers directly across the fjord from Tingvoll, but 70-80 km by road.) Both postmarks are bridge-with-vertical-lines style. Both versions of the 7 øre stamp are much scarcer Used than Mint and can be hard to find on nice-looking covers. This is assumed to be the lower-value unwatermarked version because of the date. Very neat and attractive.

Scott #O35 x2 (or #O24) [1941 10 øre Official #O35 Unwatermarked or #O24 Watermarked] (one VF, one damaged corner) on 25 March 1943 domestic cover from the tax inspection office for Sør-Trøndelag county. From TRONDHEIM to Røros, with WWII-era text-machine cancellation "SVARTHANDLERNE ER SAMFUNNSFIENDER" (black market traders are enemies of society). This text-machine cancellation was only used in 1942 (very scarce) and 1943; only in a total of 5 post offices in the 4 largest cities (there are some cancellation sub-types in the Oslo post offices). In Trondheim, this cancellation is recorded by Aune/Hauge (2007) used on 29 December 1942 and in 1943 from 7 January through 23 March. This cover is dated 25 March 1943, two days later than the last recorded date. This is assumed to be the lower-value unwatermarked version because of the date. Very neat and attractive. A nice example of one of the social effects of WWII in Norway.

Scott #O37 (or #O26) [1940 20 øre Official #O37 Unwatermarked or #O26 Watermarked] (F-VF) on 7 August 1942 window envelope domestic cover from the land registry office for the Aker municipality (now part of Oslo). With "OSLO Br" [with narrow "Br"] machine cancellation. The cover has a central fold well away from the stamp. This is assumed to be the lower-value unwatermarked version because of the date. Very neat appearance.

Scott #O38A [1946 25 øre orange Official] (VF) on 23 February 1949 domestic cover from the forest inspection office in Møre and Romsdal. Mailed from SURNADAL with two SUPERB (the device must have been almost new) of their bridge-with-vertical-lines cancellation. Official covers from the 25 øre rate period are surprisingly hard to find. The rate ran only from 1 October 1946 thru 30 September 1951. This color of the 25 øre stamp came into use on the first day of that postal rate. Very attractive and seldom offered!

Scott #O39 (or #O28) [1945 30 øre Official #O39 Unwatermarked or #O28 Watermarked] (VF) SOLO USE on 30 October 1945 LOCAL RATE "money letter" envelope, which contained 25.00 kroner in cash, used locally, from the sheriff office in TINGVOLL, with bridge-with-vertical-lines style cancellations. The reverse is sealed with official post office "POSTOBLAT" seals, handstamped with the sheriff office rubber stamp. The back flap has some opening damage, but one of the two seals is fully present. This is assumed to be the lower-value unwatermarked version because of the date. At that time, the Norwegian "lensmann", or sheriff, acted both as a law enforcement official and as a local authority that, in small communities, handled some other civil government functions. The local rate was 10 øre (1 July 1919 thru 30 September 1946; after that it increased to 15 øre thru 30 June 1949 after which the local rate was eliminated. The insured (money) letter fee (for up to 500 kr) was 20 øre 1 Sept 1920 thru 30 June 1949. The money (insured) letter service had more secure requirements and methods than the registered mail service. However, registered mail numbered postal labels (with the "R" torn off) were often used to provide the tracking number for the item. Very neat appearance. This would be nice addition to a Law Enforcement thematic collection.

Scott #O41 (or #O30) [1941 40 øre greenish black Official #O41 Unwatermarked or #O30 Watermarked] (VF) SOLO USE on 12 September 1944 domestic rate "money letter" envelope, which contained 113.40 kroner in cash, used locally, from the county treasurer office in SINGSÅS, with bridge-no-vertical-lines style cancellations. The reverse had been sealed (no longer present) with official post office "POSTOBLAT" seals. The addressee name has been erased for privacy, but it is not very obvious. This is assumed to be the lower-value unwatermarked version because of the date. The domestic letter rate was 20 øre (1 January 1921 thru 30 June 1945. The insured (money) letter fee (for up to 500 kr) was 20 øre 1 Sept 1920 thru 30 June 1949. The money (insured) letter service had more secure requirements and methods than the registered mail service. However, registered mail numbered postal labels (with the "R" torn off) -- as this example -- were often used to provide the tracking number for the item. Very neat appearance.

Scott #O41A [1946 40 øre ultramarine Official] (VF) on 25 September 1950 domestic DOUBLE-WEIGHT REGISTERED cover from the Nidaros Diocesan Board, sent to Haltdalen. The diocesan boards were the elected regional governing body for each of the 11 dioceses within the Church of Norway. The boards had official mail franking / postal privileges the same as any government office. With red-R registration label, mailed from "TRONDHEIM A", and canceled with two VF strikes of the "TRONDHEIM Bko." bridge-with-vertical-lines cancellation. The double weight (20-125 gr) domestic letter rate was 50 øre from 1 October 1946 thru 30 September 1951. The registration fee was 30 øre from 31 October 1946 thru 30 June 1951. Registered official covers from this 30 øre fee period are surprisingly hard to find. Coincidentally, this color of the 40 øre stamp came into use on the first day of the 1 October 1946 postal rate change. Very attractive and seldom offered! This would be a nice addition to a Church of Norway thematic collection!

Scott #O52 x2 [1941 40 øre greenish black Official, German-Occupation "Sun Cross"] (VF) on 1945 or 1946 (cancel date unclear; I believe it is from June 1946) TRIPLE WEIGHT "MONEY LETTER" insured envelope, which contained 348.16 kroner in cash, mailed by the tax collector of Sør-Trøndelag county. With unclear "TRONDHEIM Bko." bridge-with-vertical-lines style cancellations, and a R-removed postal label from "TRONDHEIM A.". The reverse had been sealed with (now partial) official post office "POSTOBLAT" seals. The reverse shows some opening damage as usual. The triple-weight (125-500 gr) domestic letter rate was 60 øre (1 July 1945 thru 30 September 1946 -- ONLY 15 MONTHS. There is an additional non-postal red handstamp on the front, applied by the county tax auditor office. (I am just guessing, but I suspect that an disbursement of an amount of this size first needed to be reviewed and approved by the tax auditor office before it could be mailed.) Very neat appearance. Covers bearing stamps of this "Sun Cross" issue are highly sought after, especially examples such as this that are much more interesting than just the ordinary letter rate.

Scott #O60 [1952 15 øre Official "O.S."] (VF) on 14 July 1955 unsealed PRINTED MATTER cover from the County Governor office for Møre and Romsdal. Mailed at MOLDE with non-repeating machine cancellation (wavy lines to right of hub), to ØYDEGARD and then forwarded (bridge-with-vertical-lines postmark on reverse) to Årsund (about 12 km away). The basic (up to 50 gr) printed matter rate was 15 øre from 1 June 1952 thru 30 June 1957. Since the envelope was left unsealed, it did not have to be marked for printed matter. Covers bearing stamps of this "O.S." design are remarkably hard to find. The various denominations were first released in 1951-1952 but were already being replaced by the next design starting in 1955.
