1.  News & Comment: Format of the E-News. Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
In the last issue I asked for opinions and comments about the format of the E-News. Quite a few of the replies stated that they liked the website format for the general bulk of the text, illustrations, etc., however, they preferred to have the (sometimes bulky) listings of new "Website Specials" in the emailed version of the E-News.

Thus with this issue, I make that modification. New "Website Specials" (collections, lots, accumulations, used albums, used literature, etc.) are listed both in the emailed and website versions of the E-News.

As always, I welcome further comment, whether pro or con. Suggestions are always appreciated.

A printed, postal-mailed version of the "Website Specials" Collections, Lots, Accumulations, and Used Literature is also available. This list does not have anything more than what is on the website, however it is handy for folks who prefer not to use the website. Please email me to request a copy.

2.  DENMARK STAMP PRICE LISTS Now on Website Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
DENMARK STAMP PRICE LISTS have been put on the website. This list is probably the most comprehensive such listing on the web, with up to three levels of condition and up to five levels of quality for each item. There are over 5000 priced listings and more are being added almost every day. 99.5% of the stamps have illustrations.

A downloadable, printable version (without illustrations) will be available in a couple weeks and will be announced in an E-News. However, because many items are in very short supply, I suggest you don't wait; place your order today.

A full Table of Contents helps to get you to a starting point in the lists. Unfortunately, to keep the page size and browser loading time reasonable, the list is divided into 107 web pages.

Scott numbers have been given for these listings. If you would prefer to examine the stamps before purchasing, or you are any seeking stamps (or any condition or any quality) not listed here, please send your want list using your choice of Scott, Facit, or AFA numbers. (My stock is organized in Scott order, thus Scott numbers are preferred, but I can work with the other numbers if that is easier for you.)

Unless there is a 6-digit item number in the left-most column, the images shown in the "regular stamp" price lists are standard images of the issues from my image library; they are presented to show the designs of the stamp issues and not to show the specific individual stamps being offered. The centering of the stamps in the images is usually Superb or VF quality; again these are not images of the individual stamps being offered unless you see a 6-digit number in the left-most column. Most early stamps had multiple printings, thus color shades vary greatly; the colors in the images are random printings/colors. If there is a 6-digit item number in the left-most column, the image is of the actual item being offered.

All the listed conditions and qualities were in stock at the moment this list was prepared and I endeavor to maintain them in stock and to keep this website updated. However, my stock changes daily and (to paraphrase) good stamps are hard to find. If you are willing to accept a different grade or quality if an item is temporarily out of stock, please let me know when ordering (add a comment at the conclusion of the shopping cart process) and please also let me know of any alternates you will consider. Furthermore, new stamps are being put in stock every day; if the quality and/or condition you are seeking is not listed, please send your want list.

The publication of this list is a "first effort" in quite a long time. It surely includes a few errors; I will be grateful if you would inform me of any errors you notice. Stamps "missing" from the list simply might not be included because they are not in stock or are singles which are normally only listed in full sets. Just the same if it seems like something obvious (and not a single from a set) is missing, please let me know. If you can offer for sale items that are not listed here, please do so; I especially need sources of recent used complete sets. Prices are subject to typographical error and change, but I will do my best to honor the listed prices to the extent of available stock.

See additional examples of Danish Stamps in the following Sections:
New Arrivals.
Specialized Stamps many pages starting here (Varieties, Blocks, Cancellations, and other interesting items).

TIP: These price list pages are in Scott number order. Once you are on a price list page, to most easily navigate these stamp price list pages, use the "drop down" menu located above this text (and at the bottom of every page). You can also hover over the numbered page links and read the name of the page in the bottom status bar of your browser.

3.  Interesting Possibilities for Collecting Danish Covers Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
I am often asked some version of "what can I collect in country X that a) does not cost a lot of money; b) is challenging; c) few other people are collecting; and d) I can 'make my own'."

That is a very good question. Of course the possibilities are virtually endless, however, many of the old standards such as revenues, local posts, postmarks, etc. have become more well-known and more widely collected resulting in greater competition, higher prices, etc. As areas become more popular and literature becomes available, there is perhaps less opportunity to 'make it your own'. Some folks would rather collect in a well-documented area. Others prefer to be out on the frontier.

There are a few areas of collecting Danish covers that come to mind as offering excellent possibilities for specialization without great cost. A key factor in my listing these areas is that I do not know of any among my clients who are actively building collections of these areas. YOU could become one of those collectors and thus get first pick of my stock both now and as I get new material.

1946-Current Coat of Arms: This long-running definitive (or "regular issue") design has been around for 60+ years and has recently undergone an engraving change (along with the popular Wavy-Line design). There stamps have always been mid- and high-value denominations of their day. Thus their postal uses tend to be more interesting: foreign letters, airmail uses, parcel cards, money orders, postal forms, other postal services, etc. Since many of these stamps were used on postal forms some are extremely scarce on envelopes. Furthermore the postal forms were often supposed to be retained by the post office as receipts of delivery or payment and then later cut up for the supply of kiloware. Thus even on postal forms such as parcel cards and money orders, these stamps can be scarce. Some are virtual rarities as solo frankings on any type of mail item. Despite all these factors, these relatively "modern" (and some still currently in use today) stamps on cover are probably grossly undervalued by dealers. Even a "properly priced" $20 scarce item today could well be a $100 item 10 or 15 years from now.

1948-1960 Frederik IX: This is the full-face design, not the 1961-67 profile design (though that issue has great potential too). These stamps were the workhorse issues of their day covering almost everything from the local post card rate up to the basic overseas airmail rates. Because of their relatively low denominations, they are usually found on post cards and envelopes, but not as often on postal forms. They came into use as Denmark was rebuilding from the privations of the WWII years and as the development of international airmail services expanded tremendously making the world a smaller place. Just the same, once you get beyond the basic domestic card and letter uses, attractive and unusual examples are surprisingly hard to find. The search for unusual postal rates and destination countries can be both challenging and rewarding. Again, such covers sell for far below what they are probably "worth", considering the scarcity of many of them. The stamps were also overprinted for both surcharges to different rates and for semi-postal use to benefit charities; most of the overprints are challenging to find on cover and offer possibilities to search for interesting varieties. Speaking of varieties, these were issued in a time before the quality of platemaking and printing improved to the point that varieties become unusual, thus you can have a lot of fun with a magnifying glass.

Postal Forms, Parcel Cards, Money Orders, etc.: This is a little understood area of collecting, especially in the U.S. where there has never been the concept of a parcel card (a card accompanying a package; it bears the stamps; addresses; contents, customs, and insurance information; postmarks, etc.). Parcel cards are/were the standard for packages in the Scandinavian countries and in much of Europe as well. Also, postal money orders, cash-on-delivery forms, and many other postal forms bearing stamps are/were much more used in Scandinavia than in the U.S. The forms themselves make a fascinating area of study; a new book on Danish postal forms has just been published. Many of these forms were intended to be retained by the post office as receipts of delivery or payment; later the stamps were to be clipped off to supply kiloware. Thus many types of these forms are unusual or scarce. Also, there is a wide variety of extremely unusual forms without stamps and internal post office forms with or without stamps. Very often such items can be had very inexpensively. One thing is for sure: when collecting postal forms, every new item you find is a surprise. You will largely be forging a new philatelic path.

Non-Cancellation Postmarks on Covers: A "postmark" is a marking applied by a post office: it could be designating the type of mail service such as for airmail or printed matter, etc.; it could be instructional such as return to sender; or it could be a cancellation on a stamp. To some extent this area ties in with collecting postal forms because many of the postal markings on postal forms are not stamp cancellations. However, there are a multitude of markings that can be found on "ordinary" letter mail: postage due, forwarding, moved, return to sender, service suspended, etc. etc. Additionally, almost every Danish post office has at least one "office stamp" which is applied for various dating purposes, but only rarely (in error or emergency) to cancel stamps. Perhaps there is a project in existence to document all these various markings; if so, I am not aware of it. Again, here is a collecting area that is challenging, inexpensive, and offers a new surprise every day.

If you are looking for a new challenge, I would be happy to assist you in developing your collection. If you want some ideas for such areas in other Scandinavian countries, please send me a note.

4.  Special Offers: Collections & Albums -- Great Buys Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
I am constantly buying large and small Scandinavian, U.S., and Worldwide. If you are considering getting into a new area and would like a "starter collection" (whether small or large), let me know about your interest. Also, if you are seeking used binders or used empty albums to match what you currently have, again, let me know. In the process of buying Scandinavian collections, many of my long-time clients (or their estates) ask that I assist in selling the non-Scandinavian portion of their collections. If there is something you are looking for, just let me know. Take a look at the current listings on the web site (but if you don't see your interest listed, please inquire -- most have not been listed on the web site yet).

I guarantee your satisfaction. Each item is one of a kind; orders will be filled in order of receipt. Payment by MasterCard or Visa suggested, but I will hold items for 10 days pending receipt of your check or money order if you prefer.

#731152   White Ace U.S. Definitive Album Pages 1950s-1980s and Binder with Slipcase
What appears (but not guaranteed) to be the complete set of 1954-1979+ pages (no stamps) for U.S. definitives: Liberty, Prominent Americans, Americana. Most spaces have black Showgard mounts. The pages are in good condition and are in an appropriate White Ace U.S. binder with slip case. The binder and slip case alone should be worth this price. $19.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731156   Deluxe Sheet Album with Slipcase
Very unusual 2.25-inch albums, with slipcase, designed for U.S. full sheets. 50 heavy black card pages with crystal-clear plastic on either side, thus holds 100 sheets. Though the pages are a little larger, the practical size limit for contents is 9.5 x 11.5 inches. Somewhat expandable high-quality binding. The only disadvantage is that the pages are not "hinged", thus the pages do not really turn for easy viewing. However, it seems to be a very good and highly protective storage system and are really deluxe. I have never before seen such binders and I cannot determine the brand. Excellent used condition. I have available one in maroon and two in brown. Unless otherwise requested, the first order non-specific order will receive the maroon binding. Please specify desired color and quantity. Price is per one. $25.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

5.  Used and One-of-a-kind Philatelic Literature Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
Most of these books are one-of-a-kind, thus be sure to order early. This is just a tiny glimpse of the used books available. Please take a look at the complete Literature Specials price list -- it has much more to offer. I welcome your want list for any Scandinavian books you are seeking. "New" books will be in brand-new condition. "Used" books will be used, though in attractive and serviceable condition; these books may contain minor owner's marks and have typical wear, but any significant defects will be noted in the description. Most "used" books are in much better condition than you might think; many are pristine.

#731163   Norma Finland Specialized Catalog 1977
Handy, with English text, for the collector who either collects old catalogs or would like to learn a bit about Finland stamps. In addition to the usual subjects, includes postal stationery, ship mail stamps, catalog number concordance, etc. Color illustrations. Excellent used condition, especially for a Norma Catalog. $7.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731166   Norgeskatalogen 1996

#731165   Handlerkatalog Norge, Nr 28, Winter 1998/1999
This is a non-specialized "stamp shop catalog" that is distributed by Norwegian dealers and is somewhat akin to the Brookman Catalog for U.S. stamps. It uses NK numbering but with more realistic pricing than NK. In Norwegian, but very easy to use. Slick printing, full color, very handy. Probably never actually used; pages pristine, but binding with a couple blemishes probably from shipping. $6.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731159   Denmark Stamp Booklets
(Boom, 1976) The first (?) edition of the so-called Boom catalog of Danish booklets. Since superceded, but still somewhat useful. In English. Good used condition. $9.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731160   An Introduction to the Postal History of Denmark 1624-1950
(Cornelius, 2004) To call this massive 344-page, large-format book an "introduction" is misleading. This masterwork provides a wealth of valuable information from which even experienced philatelists will learn much. Entirely in ENGLISH, well-illustrated, hardbound. Well written and enjoyable to read (sometimes unusual in philatelic books). Covering every conceivable aspect of postal history, transport, rates, geo-political postal matters, types of postmarks, all the postal services, and much more. I am told that this is a limited printing of 300 copies. This is one book that should be required for every collector of Danish postal history. Brand new, but back cover slightly dented in shipment (does not at all harm overall appearance or the pages in any way). Normally $99. VERY LIMITED PRINTING; I believe that the publisher is now sold out! $86.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731161   Danish Perfin Catalogs -- Pair of Books
Set of two catalogs: 1980 illustrated List of Danish Perfins published by the U.S.-based The Perfins Club; and a photocopy of 1983 (?) Handbook of Danish Perfins published in Denmark. Both can also be used like albums for Danish perfins. Loose-leaf 3-ring punched pages. Superceded by a more recent Danish-published perfin catalog, however, this is a great way to get started. $30.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731157   Danish Private Local Post Stamps
(Brun-Pedersen, 1954; Katalog over Danske Privatpost Frimærker) A classic priced catalog of Danish Locals that gives a very interesting perspective. In Danish, but with small Danish-English word list. Heavily illustrated. Long since eclipsed by other publications, however still interesting and useful... and scarce. Used; pages nearly pristine, but cover with slight wear and a couple markings. $20.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731167   Catalog of Norwegian Cancellations After 1845
(1950?, OFK; Fortegnelse over Norske Poststempler Etter 1845 - Del I 1941 og Del II 1950). Without publication date for this volume, but consists of 157 pages in two parts, at least one of which previously published. Extremely useful, though certainly dated, all-in-one-place listings of many different types of Norwegian cancellations: pre-stamp, bar, 3-ring numeral, single-ring, bridge, 2-ring town, 8-hole, Swiss-type, manuscript, parcel post, local post, ship, colored, 3-ring (later use), 4-ring, airmail, and much more. Each area is now covered by more modern and accurate publications, however, this is a very handy and useful -- and very scarce -- book. Rarely seen in good condition and seldom offered in any condition. This copy in good used condition; would be excellent except for some staining at the top edge of the first 30 pages. $39.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731169   Philately and the Computer
(Wolf, Mary, 1994) A fascinating 272-page "illustrated guide to using the personal computer as a philatelic tool". While 13 years later this book is obviously useless in terms of specific software programs or other such product references (which the book seems to try to avoid for this reason), the concepts, general methods, and ideas discussed are extremely useful to this day. This is one of those books that will give you at least one (if not ten!) "AHA!!" ideas on every page! Appears to be brand new. Only one available; I bet it goes in the first 90 seconds! $19.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731168   The Impressed Duty Stamps of Victoria
(Smith, Elsmore, 2006) 32 pages, illustrated, thorough discussion of these revenue / fiscal stamp imprints. $10.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)
