DENMARK COIL-COMBINATION PAIRS

The Danish coil-combination pairs may not be well known, but they are fascinating and scarce. One issue was the only source for the 3 øre Wavy-Line / Numeral stamp in the distinctive Pearl Gray color [having it in the pair greatly helps prove the color].

DENMARK CHRISTMAS SEAL ODDITIES AND ERRORS: Very few printing / production oddities or errors are seen for Danish Christmas Seals. However, when they do show up, they are usually dramatic. Take a look at these great items.
By the way, if you collect Danish Christmas Seals and you don't have the official reprints, you really should consider including them. I have the only illustrated listing on the Internet that I know of, on four pages, starting here.

GREENLAND DANISH CHRISTMAS SEALS WITH GREENLANDIC DESIGN: The Danish 1921 Christmas Seal utilized a Greenlandic design, resulting in a very attractive seal sought by collectors of both areas. I have just listed some attractive items. (I also have the single ordinary seal, though it is not on the website yet.)

NORWAY EARLY ISSUES IN EXCELLENT QUALITY: Early Norwegian stamps in nice quality are very challenging to locate. Here are some stamps I think you will like.

SWEDEN BOOKLET WITH TRIPLE MARKINGS: Most Swedish booklets have, since 1938, had the possibility of bearing "marginal markings". The possible markings consist of: Cylinder Numbers (either a 1 OR a 2; sometimes split between two booklets), a Counting Number (control or serial number, usually 5 or 6 digits; sometimes split between two booklets), and a Spine Print. Typically ONE of these three types of markings might appear every roughly 8 to 15 booklets; Spine Prints only appear every 50th booklet. To have a combination of a Cylinder Number and a Counting Number on the same booklet is usually a somewhat unusual occurrence. The combination of a Spine Print and one of the other markings is even less often seen. However, having ALL THREE present on one booklet is a rare occurrence! I offer one such item today.
Note: If you collect all Swedish booklets with marginal markings or if you just seek such items from particular issues or topics, I can help. Though I don't have a price list for them, I do have many hundreds of such single (and even many double) marking booklets in stock. I am happy to send approvals from your want list or from a general description of your interests. Most such booklets are priced just a very small amount more than the normal booklet.

SWEDEN YEAR SETS AT A DISCOUNT: I was recently offered a large group of Swedish year sets at a price that allows me to pass on huge savings. The prices are discounted at least 40%! These are all complete year sets in NH VF pristine condition, including all the appropriate pairs, panes, strips, souvenir sheets, etc.
The stamps are in the format that Sweden issues its stamps, with pairs of booklet stamps, etc. If you use a Scott or similar American-made album and do not need the resulting "extra" stamps, no problem: I will remove them from the set and reduce the price accordingly.
I have started out with the years 1971-1973 and if they are well received, I will continue listing up into the 1990s. FROM POSTMASTER PROVISIONALS TO DUCKS & CSA

A wide range of attractive U.S. stamps have been added, starting with an 1847 Providence, Rhode Island, postmaster provisional through the Bank Note issues, Washington-Franklin Heads, and into the 1920s. At the back of the book, there are new items in the Envelope Cut Squares (see the "Other Back of Book" section), Duck Stamps, and even the Confederate States of America.

The big news for the 2013 Facit is a MAJOR SPECIAL ARTICLE, IN ENGLISH, ON THE ICELAND "I GILDI" OVERPRINTED STAMPS with a great deal of NEW INFORMATION. The article, titled "An Expert's Guide to the Iceland I GILDI ‘02-‘03 Overprints" covers 17 solid pages of text and useful illustrations. It discusses the background of the stamps, their overprinting, the different overprint types and the eight overprint plate settings, major overprint errors, wrong color overprints and missing overprints, the overprints on single & double postal stationery cards, the 1904 Berne reprints, and used stamps and cards. There is a tremendous amount of never-before-published information. Even the information that has been previously published has mostly not been available in English. The information about the postal cards also includes significant new research. Publication of this information has been anticipated for years!
This important article is likely a one-time event in Facit and, in my opinion, is likely to cause the catalog to be an early sell-out. Furthermore, if the information is not also published elsewhere in the next few years, the value of this catalog could stay high as the article will continue to be sought by specialists.
Despite all that Icelandic excitement, there is still plenty to recommend this catalog to all those who don't include Iceland in their Scandinavian collections. If you have an old Facit that is not in color, you owe it to yourself to upgrade to a new one. If you only get a copy every couple/few years, this is the year to do it. (See my note above about the possibility of the catalog's value staying high.)
The price this year is $87, plus shipping. In the U.S., our flat-rate shipping cost for most book orders is $3.00 by Media Mail. Priority Mail or shipping out of the country varies.

However, many (but not all) have lightly penciled catalog numbers on their covers. All ARE erasable with a soft eraser. (I use a Pentel Clic ZE22.) Jay Smith retail for this group totals $388. About 550 different, mint and used, on Grossman pages. All periods represented including 19th Century, a decent selection of Washington-Franklin heads, strong 1920s-30s, and some back-of-book (airmails run to 1960). Includes better older issues, but condition varies on these. Expect some typical faults (mostly minor), but overall the majority is generally Fine or better. Some of the mint are lightly stuck, but can be removed with care. Scott 2012 retail totals over $2000 (with many not counted, and misidentified items counted as what they really are). Taking condition into account, this should still be an excellent buy at a modest percentage of retail! $375.00

#732104 United States Old-Time Collection 1851-1940
Collection of hundreds of 19th-early 20th Century issues, mint and used, on venerable Linns album pages. Highly variable condition: much of the value is in damaged high-catalog 19th Century spacefillers (way over $2000 catalog value in this category alone) including Bank Note higher values, 30c and 50c Columbians, etc. There is also several hundred dollars of catalog value in a decent range of lower and medium priced 19th Century issues, a fair showing of Washington-Franklin heads (questionable coils and obviously mis-identified NOT figured) and a useful selection of the 1920-40 period. There is also a mostly used set of Kansas-Nebraskas of dubious parentage (none of the cancels are from Kansas or Nebraska). Throughout you will find quite a number of attractive multiples (pairs, strips, and blocks). Let us reiterate: while many of the lower and medium values are F-VF, this is a vintage old-time collection strictly for someone who is not fussy about condition and who likes lots of old stamps at a tiny percentage of catalog value! $350.00

#732103 U.S. Plate Block Collection 1925-63
Mounted collection of about 340 different plate blocks in Harris album. This includes better older blocks but also some hinging or minor perf separations in the early period. Then fairly complete from 1945-63 and seems to be virtually all NH from about 1940 onwards. Overall F-VF or better with vast majority VF. Scott 2012 retail for the early period and back-of-book (airmails, etc.) totals over $275, plus there is $38.65 face in the post-war period. Between Scott #728//1474, Collection of about 480 different commemorative and airmail plate blocks in mounts on Scott commemorative pages in green 3-inch 2-post Specialty binder (pages are complete for 1893-1972). A very few of the earlier blocks have a hinge mark or minor perf separation, but many of this period are sound; after 1940 the collection is virtually complete and uniformly sound, NH, VF. #732066 U.S. Challenger Space Shuttle Flight 1983 Cover in Folder
1983 Cacheted unaddressed cover franked by Scott #1909, the $9.35 Eagle, carried on the Eighth Flight of the Challenger Space Shuttle for 81 orbits of the Earth, Aug.30 - Sept.5, 1983. In the original souvenir folder showing spectacular photos of Challenger and an infrared image of the heating pattern of the wing during re-entry!!! A vital piece of Space topic postal history! Over 100 different U.S. plus 29 different U.N. first day covers, 1959-1961, in nice padded cover album. Majority uncacheted and addressed but some cacheted and some unaddressed. Lighthouse "FDC 2" cover albums: "European" cover size (approximately 190+ x 130+ mm). Polyethylene plastic cover holders with black paper inserts. 50 holders accommodates 100 covers, back to back, per album. These date from the "West Germany" labeling era, however are they are in good used condition and will be very useful to organize your covers or similar-size items such as souvenir sheets or larger booklets. SLIP CASE ONLY specifically TO FIT 3-Inch 3-RING Scott Specialty binder. The 3-ring binders are deeper (than the post binders), thus this slip case is deeper (about 12.75 inches) and is too deep for a 2-post binder (unless you put something in the back to back-stop it, which you could do). According to an old price list, new slip cases cost around $30.00. I hardly ever see used extra slip cases available for sale. Very gently used and ready for your binder. $14.00

Special purpose 4-ring album that the previous owner used for Danish "stamp coins" (postal currency / encased postage). Contains 7 pages, plus interleaves so you do not see through to the next page. Each clear page has vertical columns containing sliding holders divided into approximately 30 x 32 mm sections. Each page holds 30 items; thus the 7 pages holds 210 items. This may have originally been made for holding coins, tokens, or similar items, but it is perfect for Danish "stamp coins". Like new condition. $15.00

#732101 Stanley Gibbons Booklet Album
Handsome red 22-ring binder containing 14 crystal-clear plastic pages and accompanying black interleaves so that you do not see through to the next page. The pages are variously sized for various the British booklet sizes. This could also be used for other smallish size odds and ends, tickets, small cards, trade cards, ephemera, etc. As far as I can see, the album/pages have never been used. Though this particular binder style appears to have been changed since this was made, SG still uses a 22-ring mechanism. The current style of binder sells new for around $34 and the pages sell for around $12.50 per five pages; both plus shipping from England! More pages (and the newer style of binder) are available on the SG website if you want more. $24.00
