18 Gray [1876 4 öre Ringtype, Perf 14] Mint, original gum slightly disturbed (from hinge removal), with Fine+ centering, but tiny thin speck. Very fresh appearance, with perfect perforations, and excellent color. Unusual plate variety: Large white spot to left of "4". This is a very scarce stamp in Mint condition. From the Haggstrom collection. (Facit Classic 2024 SEK 4,500 with nothing added for the plate variety.)

20 (Dark) Violet [1872 6 öre Ringtype, Perf 14] Used with F-VF centering and neat cancellation, but with a tiny tear between two perforation teeth (you will need a magnifying glass to see it). This is a very striking, dark color, but it is not the "dark violet" which is much deeper. However, in my opinion, it is too dark to call "dark lilac". A very attractive stamp at a great price.

20a, Facit #20b Ultramarinish Violet on Yellowish Paper [1872 6 öre violet Ringtype, Perf 14] Mint, original gum, with Fine+ centering, but with tiny bend (appears to be pre-printing) and small natural paper inclusion. Very fresh appearance, with perfect perforations, and excellent color. This color exists on both yellowish and white paper (Facit #20b vs #20c); this the least costly printing of dark violet. This is a scarce stamp in Mint condition though this particular color/printing does not carry a premium. From the Haggstrom collection. (Facit Classic 2024 SEK 3,500.)

22 [1872 12 öre Ringtype, Perf 14] Used with F-VF+ centering and a neat, crisp, almost complete, KUNGSBACKA 24 October 1875 cancellation. The stamp has a somewhat unusual grainy, blurry print. While the cancellation itself is not scarce, having such a nicely dated example on a stamp with unusual printing appearance can help to determine which printing the stamp is from. Very attractive!

Scott #22 [1872 12 öre Ringtype, Perf 14] Used with Average centering. With a XF cancellation well centered on the stamp, just slightly tilted, EKSHÄRAD 14 November 1876 cancellation. This is a scarcer cancellation. This post office had only recently opened on 1 January 1875. This town name spelling is only one of five Swedish post offices to ever start with EKS. Though the centering of the stamp could certainly be better, it is a wonderful example of this scarcer town cancellation!

Scott #22 Plate Variety [1872 12 öre Ringtype, Perf 14] Used with Average-Fine centering and very light cancellation. This example has two interesting plate varieties: 1) The bottom frame line is thick and blurred, which normally means that it is from the bottom row of the sheet. 2) In the right margin, at the top and bottom corners, there are printed blue marks that are very likely from the nails that held the plate to the wooden backing; such markings are rarely encountered (the nail heads were supposed to be flattened out enough that they would never leave a printed mark), but in this case they are seen because they were not adequately flattened and the centering of the design is shifted so far to the left as to expose what would normally have been in the right-side sheet selvage instead of on a stamp. These two varieties combined suggest that this stamp is from position 100 in the sheet -- a feature for which there is rarely obvious visible evidence.

23, Facit #22d Pale Red [1872 20 öre red-orange Ringtype, Perf 14] Mint, original gum modestly hinged, with F-VF+ centering. Very fresh appearance, with excellent perforations, and wonderful, delicate color. This color is seldom seen in Mint condition in such nice quality -- I believe that this is the first undamaged Mint example of this color that I have had in 50 years! The 20 öre stamp is very scarce in Mint condition regardless of the particular color/printing. From the Haggstrom collection. (Facit Classic 2024 SEK 12,000.)

23 Pale Red [1872 20 öre Ringtype, Perf 14] Used with F-VF centering and light 1877 cancellation and perfect perforations. This is an outstanding example of the somewhat scarcer Pale Red color. Facit assigns this color a slightly higher value, but nice looking examples are much, much scarcer than Facit suggests.

Scott #23 PALE RED, Facit #22d [1872 20 öre red/orange shades Ringtype, Perforation 14] Used with Fine+ centering. A beautiful example of this scarcer color with delicate color, "perfect" perforations, and an XF-Superb SKÖFDE 26 November 1874 cancellation. Facit 2024 indicates that this color was produced in 1873 and 1874, which matches with the date of the cancellation. A very striking example of a color that is seldom offered and which is "remarkably scarce" with such a nice cancellation.

Scott #23b, Facit #23b DOUBLE PRINT [1876 20 on 20 öre Ringtype, Perforation 14] Used with Average centering, but with a couple blunted perforation tips and two small thin spots. One original printing of the 20 öre was so light in Pale Orange color as to be almost useless (though some were released and used; quite scarce) and thus they were run through the press again to print in a darker color. Facit lists three possible color groups on top of the Pale Orange. The colors were hand-mixed as needed and were not always consistent, even though the printing may have been done within a very short time span. This is Facit #23b, the "Red". The red (top) color is shifted slightly up by four frameline widths and to the left by one frameline widths. This example is clearly visible to the experienced eye, but, as always, is more visible with a 10x magnifier. A very low-priced example.

24, Facit #24e Orange Yellow [1872 24 öre orange-yellow Ringtype, Perf 14] Mint, original gum lightly hinged (though extremely slightly disturbed which most people could not detect), with F-VF centering. Very fresh appearance, with excellent perforations, and wonderful color. The 24 öre stamp is very scarce in Mint condition regardless of the particular color/printing. From the Haggstrom collection. Scott #24 [1872 24 öre Ringtype, Perf 14] Used with VF centering. Based on the color and paper, this could be Facit #24d, e, or f; it needs to be compared with multiple examples of known colors. Based on the yellowish paper color, Facit #24e is a likely possibility (Facit 2024 value SEK 600!!), but I am offering and pricing it as the most common color of #24. This example bears almost complete, though sideways, KUNGSBACKA 17 August 1874 cancellation. Wonderful color, excellent centering, and excellent perforations.

24 Bright Orange, SHADED NUMERALS [1872 24 öre Ringtype, Perf 14] Used with F-VF centering and neat, light cancellation. This example clearly shows shading in both "24" numerals, clear of the cancellation. Shaded numerals are listed by Facit and are not "scarce", but on the 24 öre stamps, they are very hard to see and hard to find. The Facit 2024 Classic value of the shaded numerals on the most common color shade is SEK 500! An attractive example.

Scott #24, Facit #24d Bright Yellowish Orange on White Paper [1872 24 öre Ringtype, Perf 14] Used with F-VF centering. This color (multiple print runs) was distributed 1872-1877. With an almost perfectly centered, though a little light, TIERP 11 ?? 1874 cancellation; the month is probably September. (The E looks like a D due to extra ink.) Wonderful color and perfect perforations. A handsome example.

Scott #25 Shaded Numerals Variety, Facit #25v6 [1872 30 öre Ringtype, Perf 14] Used with Fine centering and a neat, light cancellation. Very distinctive Dark Brown color with a Grainy Printing impression. The "Shaded Numerals" variety is present on both numerals. The "Shaded Numerals" variety comes about from inadequate removal of die metal from the interior area of the numerals. On a typographed stamp, the unprinted (white) areas are the result of die metal not being present in that location -- the opposite of an engraved / recess printed stamp. A nice example with the cancellation well away from the variety area.

Scott #25a Black Brown, Facit #25j [1872 30 öre Ringtype, Perf 14] Used with Fine centering. With a VF cancellation with complete EKSJÖ 2 December 1876 town name and fully readable date. This town name spelling is only one of five Swedish post offices to ever start with EKS. This distinctive color was distributed in 1876-1877 and cannot be confused with any other printing / color of this stamp. The 2024 Facit Classic value is SEK 200, more than double the value of the least costly color.

The 1 riksdaler stamp is very scarce in Mint condition regardless of the particular color/printing and even regardless of the gum condition; no-gum examples are scarce too! 27a Orange Brown and Ultramarine [1872 1 riksdaler Ringtype, Perf 14] Used with VF centering, great color, and excellent perforations. Many examples of this stamp have a "muddy" appearance, but this has very fresh, crisp, light colors -- and a very crisp, detailed printing impression. Very attractive.
