Scott #O17, Facit #TJ16Bb Type II, CARMINE, WHITE PAPER, CLEAN COLOR, CLEAR PRINT [1895 (1900 Printing) 10 öre carmine, Official, Perforation 13, Type II (feet of both "1" are very pointed)] Mint, Original Gum, Lightly Hinged, with XF centering and unusually large margins. Wonderfully fresh with strong color, "perfect" perforations, excellent centering, and excellent correct original gum with a light hinge mark. NO defects of any kind. Though the color shades and intensity can vary slightly, there are only two Facit-listed colors for the Type II stamps: the 1895 Deep Carmine with Aniline Ink (the color can be seen through to the reverse), usually on Yellowish Paper; and this 1900 Carmine with Clean Color on White Paper. When the two are viewed side by side, they are distinctly different. While this is certainly not a "scarce" stamp, such nice Mint examples can be hard to find.

Scott #O19, Facit #TJ18bv3 BROWNISH RED, WHITE PAPER [1881 (1883 Printing) 20 öre red-orange shades, Official, Perforation 13] Mint, Original Gum, Lightly Hinged, with F-VF centering. This is the Facit-listed "v3" PLATE VARIETY: "Broken curved lines above GO of TJUGO". This cliche position also has (not mentioned by Facit) a long dent in the outside of the left frame line near the center. Very fresh with unusually intense color, "perfect" perforations, typical centering, and excellent correct original gum with a light hinge mark. NO defects of any kind. The printings (colors and overall appearance) of Scott #O19 can vary dramatically. The Facit Catalog does an excellent job of listing the accepted colors/papers, but the color naming used by the Swedish catalogs for this stamp is awkward at best. One must compare to confirmed reference examples, as I have done. In Mint condition, the 20 öre red-orange (shades) stamp is the KEY BASIC STAMP of the entire Perforation 13 Official set. (There are scarcer Types and Varieties of other denominations, but this is the key basic stamp in Mint condition.) This very striking and distinct color is among the scarcest colors / printings of this stamp, with a Facit Classic 2024 value of SEK 3000 (about US$300 10/2026) for the basic color / printing. Plus Facit assigns the "v3" variety a premium value of about 30%, bringing the total Facit value of this example to around SEK 3900. Examples of any color / printing of this stamp in Mint condition are "quite scarce" and are missing from most Mint Swedish collections.

Scott #O19, Facit #TJ18e DULL RED, WHITE PAPER [1881 (1885 Printing) 20 öre red-orange shades, Official, Perforation 13] Mint, Original Gum, Lightly Hinged, with F-VF centering. The appearance of this printing is quite different from the other printings, with very light color and a crisp impression. Very fresh and attractive with very delicate color, "perfect" perforations, typical centering, and excellent correct original gum with a light hinge mark. At first glance it appears that this example has two tiny thin specks, but they do not show up as thins when placed in watermark fluid. When examined under high magnification, it can be seen that the gum in those two tiny spots has flaked away, creating a thin-speck-like appearance when held up to the light, but that is just the result of the lack of the very thick gum in those areas. I do not consider this to be a defect any more than a hinge mark. (There are scarcer Types and Varieties of other denominations, but this is the key basic stamp in Mint condition.) Though this color / printing is among the lower catalog values for this stamp, examples with this unusual appearance are seldom seen. In my opinion, the Facit Classic 2024 value of SEK 1700 (about US$170 10/2026) does not properly reflect the scarcity of this basic stamp or this color / printing. Examples of any color / printing of this stamp in Mint condition are "quite scarce" and are missing from most Mint Swedish collections.

Scott #O25, Facit #TJ24B [1896 1 kr DARK BLUE and orange brown, Official, Perforation 13, TYPE II (square periods)] Mint, Original Gum, Lightly Hinged, with XF centering. Wonderfully fresh with strong colors, excellent perforations, great centering, and excellent correct original gum with a light hinge mark. NO defects of any kind. There is only one catalog-listed color pair / printing of this stamp, but those colors do exist in different shades. This example is at the darkest end of the shade spectrum. While this is supposedly not a "scarce" stamp, nice examples are harder to find than the catalog values suggest.

Scott #O25a, Facit #TJ24Ad TYPE 1, Light Blue and Light Yellow Brown [1881 (1884 Printing) 1 kr light blue and light yellow brown, Official, Perforation 13, TYPE I (round periods)] Mint, Original Gum, Very Lightly Hinged, with F-VF centering. There is a vertical crease that is "hidden" by the left frame line; it is visible from the reverse (and initially just looks like a gum skip, which is what the previous owner thought it was), but with a 10x magnifier it can also be seen from the front. Whether the crease is "natural" or occurred later is up for debate. However, looking on the reverse like a gum skip suggests that it may be "natural". In any case, it is a crease and does affect the value. This example has wonderfully fresh appearance with bright yet delicate colors, excellent perforations, typical centering for the issue, and excellent correct original gum with only a very light hinge mark. There are five Facit-listed colors / printings of this "VERY SCARCE" Type I stamp. THIS LIGHT-COLORED PRINTING IS THE MOST DIFFERENT LOOKING COMPARED TO THE COLOR OF THE TYPE II STAMP ISSUE. In recent years, Scott added the #O25a listing for this stamp and enhanced the listing for #O25 to highlight not only the color difference but the Type difference. This has always been a "VERY SCARCE" stamp in Mint condition, but now that it is also listed by Scott, demand has increased even further. The Scott Classic 2026 value is $500 and the Facit Classic 2024 value is SEK 4500 (about US$450, 10/2026). Though the crease certainly affects the value, the crease is quite hard to see from the front and the overall appearance and freshness of this example is much nicer than most of the few examples I have seen in the last 53 years. To the best of my recollection, this is the FIRST MINT EXAMPLE of this light-color printing that I have been able to offer in 53 years (and is absolutely the first in the last 25+ years). A "very scarce" stamp that is missing in Mint condition from virtually all Swedish collections. (If this were a "normal" postage stamp and not an Official stamp, the market value would certainly be at least double!)
