United States: Bargains: Stamps - Most Recent

These bargain-priced stamps are attractive, but may have hidden flaws. Some have no defects at all, but the price is lower simply because of the centering. Unlike some dealers who might not pay attention to and lower the price for such situations, I describe the stamps completely and I set prices accordingly. You can save a tremendous amount of money when you add such stamps to your collection. Each stamp is one of a kind, so please let me know if I may substitute a different example (that looks as good or better, for about the same cost) if the stamp you order has sold. If you have any doubts, all these stamps can be available for viewing on approval. Regardless, you may always return stamps if you are not completely satisfied. If you are seeking any other U.S. stamps of this quality and price level, just send along your want list -- I will be happy to send bargains on approval. Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise stated.

Scott #510 Golden Yellow [1917 10c yellow (shades) Franklin, Perforation 11, Unwatermarked] Mint, lightly hinged, with Fine centering, but two short perforations at top. Wonderful, brilliant color -- this is one of the Scott-listed colors for this stamp. An inexpensive example of a stamp that can be hard to find with better centering. (Scott 2026 value is $15.)

Scott #517 Light Red Violet [1917 50c violet (shades) Franklin, Perforation 11, Unwatermarked] Mint hinged with F-VF centering, but three short perforations at top. Scott lists Red Violet, Violet, and Light Violet (I have reference examples of all those), but Scott does not this Light Red Violet shade. This is an attractive, delicate color. Fresh looking with a detailed engraving impression. A very low priced example because of the perforation teeth at top. (Scott 2026 value is $47.50 for the most common color, but I think that is too low even for the regular Red Violet. This Light Red Violet is scarcer in my experience.)

Scott #833 [1938 $2 yellow green and black Harding, Prexie Series] Mint, hinge remnant, with Fine+ centering. A fresh looking example with great color, at a very low price. (Scott 2026 value is $16 for NH VF.)

Scott #834 [1938 $5 carmine and black Coolidge, Prexie Series] Mint, hinge remnant, with VF centering. A fresh looking example with great color, at a very low price. (Scott 2026 value is $75 for NH and $40 for Hinged.)

Scott #1053 [1956 $5 black Hamilton, Liberty Series] Mint, lightly hinged, with VF-XF centering. A wonderfully fresh and bright example with "perfect" perforations and a proof-like engraving impression. (Scott 2026 value is $47.50 for NH VF.)
