These bargain-priced stamps are attractive, but may have hidden flaws. Some have no defects at all, but the price is lower simply because of the centering. Unlike some dealers who might not pay attention to and lower the price for such situations, I describe the stamps completely and I set prices accordingly. You can save a tremendous amount of money when you add such stamps to your collection. Each stamp is one of a kind, so please let me know if I may substitute a different example (that looks as good or better, for about the same cost) if the stamp you order has sold. If you have any doubts, all these stamps can be available for viewing on approval. Regardless, you may always return stamps if you are not completely satisfied. If you are seeking any other U.S. stamps of this quality and price level, just send along your want list -- I will be happy to send bargains on approval. Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise stated.
Scott #137 Carmine Rose [1870 6c carmine Lincoln, H Grill] Used with VF centering. Bold "2"-in-circle and "NEW YORK" cancellations; a bit heavy, but that is the nature of the bold "2" cancellation. This is a very pretty example of the Carmine Rose shade. Fairly strong grill impression confirming that it is #137 (not the scarcer 137A). A nice example of a very scarce stamp. (Scott 2025 value $425.)

Scott #145 [1870 1c ultramarine Franklin, National (no secret mark), No Grill] Mint with VF centering and great appearance. I believe that this stamp has original gum, but the gum has been disturbed in the process of removing hinge remnants. However, it is also possible that it has been at least partially regummed, thus I have priced it as without gum or regummed. Terrific, delicate color, excellent perforations, and very fresh appearance. A handsome example of a "workhorse" stamp of which few Mint examples remain extant. (Scott 2025 is $250 without gum or regummed, and $700 with original gum.)

Scott #145 [1870 1c ultramarine Franklin, National (no secret mark), No Grill] Mint with VF centering and great appearance, but expertly regummed. Appears to have a "gum thin" whereby removing a previous hinge has taken the (regumming) with it, but the paper fibers themselves are NOT thinned. Great color, excellent perforations, and very fresh appearance. A handsome example. (Scott 2025 is $250 without gum or regummed, compared to $700 with original gum.)

Scott #146 Dark Brown [1870 2c brown Jackson, National (no secret mark), No Grill] Used with VF-XF centering and light carved cancellation (appears to be a NYFM hollow wedges) and bits of a red foreign cancellation or U.S. foreign mail "paid" cancellation (off of a letter to another country). Couple of blunted perforations as usual and a hint of a small, light crease, but a very attractive example. (Scott 2022 $50 for VF-XF/50 with normal color and normal cancellation.)
