These bargain-priced stamps are attractive, but may have hidden flaws. Some have no defects at all, but the price is lower simply because of the centering. Unlike some dealers who might not pay attention to and lower the price for such situations, I describe the stamps completely and I set prices accordingly. You can save a tremendous amount of money when you add such stamps to your collection. Each stamp is one of a kind, so please let me know if I may substitute a different example (that looks as good or better, for about the same cost) if the stamp you order has sold. If you have any doubts, all these stamps can be available for viewing on approval. Regardless, you may always return stamps if you are not completely satisfied. If you are seeking any other U.S. stamps of this quality and price level, just send along your want list -- I will be happy to send bargains on approval. Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise stated.
Scott #1 Brown [1847 5c Franklin] Used with VF appearance: four large, even margins. Extremely thin paper. Slight surface wear and a couple very minor "dents" in the edge of the margin, all typical of this stamp and the more fragile thin paper. Neat orange-red grid cancellation. An attractive, properly priced example. (Scott 2024 $425 for most common stamp color shade.)

Scott #9 [1852 1c blue Franklin Type IV] Mint with partial gum, hinge remnant. Enormous margin at top, but in at right and bottom, and large incursion at left. Very slight bend and slight aging. Based on how I acquired this stamp, I suspect that it was lost in the back of a desk drawer for one hundred years or more before coming into the hands of a collector. Though the left margin leaves something to be desired, it is an example of how people had difficulty separating these imperforate stamps back in the early 1850s. A reasonably priced example of an unused stamp that is 168 years old! (Scott 2021 value $725 for full gum and $225 for no gum.)

Scott #9 [1852 1c blue Franklin, Imperforate, Type IV] Used with Fine (two margins) centering, however with much nicer overall appearance. Left margin example with very large margin at left, very large margin at top (showing part of stamp above), right margin just into design, and bottom margin well into design. Both red and black face-free cancellations at lower right. A handsome example! (Scott Specialized 2024 value $100.)

Scott #17 Black [1851 12c gray black Washington, Imperforate] The scarcer black color (instead of gray-black) listed by Scott. Mint, regummed (never hinged). Right sheet margin example, but no margins on other three sides (cut just at or inside frame lines). Possible tiny expert repair (it is sometimes difficult to be absolutely sure on a regummed stamp), but has sound appearance. I cannot detect any indication of faint cancellation or removed cancellation on this example (it can be very difficult on a black stamp). This appears to be an unused (no gum, then regummed) example. Offered without a certificate; returnable for full refund if a certificate from a recognized authority, obtained within one year of purchase, is contrary to this description, however the cost of such certificate is not refundable in this particular situation. (Scott 2021 Specialized VF No Gum values are $2100 for the gray black and $2500 for the black color.)

Scott #17 Gray Black [1851 12c gray to black (shades) Washington, Imperforate] Used with Fine appearance with one very large margin at right, and ample to touching on the other three sides. (The cliches were placed very close together in the plate, resulting in naturally small-margined stamps.) This example bears an extremely light black town cancellation. The Washington portrait is almost "cancellation free". There is what appears to be a natural paper inclusion above Washington's head. Very thin paper as usual. Attractive appearance and at a great price! (Scott Specialized 2025 value $260.)
