3.  New Printed and PDF Price Lists Now Available Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
Completely updated and revised versions of printed price list sent by postal mail or downloadable PDF price lists are now available.

My downloadable and printed/mailed price lists have been newly updated to reflect the many new additions to the website, including the complete Stamp price lists for Åland, Danish West Indies, Denmark, Faroe, and Greenland.

Five separate updated lists are available:
   Scandinavian Stamps
   Scandinavian Specialized
   Slania-Engraved & Greta Garbo
   United States & Worldwide
   United States (only)

These lists ONLY include items that are listed on the website. (Not included are those pages that do not yet have "shopping cart ability" and the Specials Collections & Used Literature [printed lists of Specials Collections & Used Literature sections are available separately by request; they change very frequently -- it is best to check the listings on the website].)

The easiest and fastest way to get these price lists, or the most recent philatelic literature price list, is to download them as PDF files from:

Alternatively, you can obtain them as printed copies by postal mail, however, there are restrictions on how many times I can send such mailings without receiving an order in return. For overseas mailings, due to the high postage costs, there is a charge for the lists (but a credit memo is supplied in return). For complete information and to email your request to get the lists, go: HERE.

5.  International Polar Year -- Items Selling Out Fast Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

2007 International Polar Year Price List

I have mentioned this subject in previous issues, but judging from the number of phone calls and emails I am getting, this is a popular issue and many people are trying to find a source. At the recent NAPEX stamp show we were "bombarded" by people seeking these souvenir sheets and the "Polar book". I am still fortunate to have a few books available, but this may be the last time I can offer them.

The 2007 International Polar Year joint issue consists of stamps released by Denmark, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, United States, and Canada. Each country issued a souvenir sheet. Denmark and Greenland also issued normal sheet stamps. Canada also issued (and has sold out!) normal sheet stamps in a small sheet format that is very attractive and which many people will prefer to collect as a mini sheet, but they don't know about it yet.

A joint book was issued; it contains only the souvenir sheet from each country. Quite interesting, with text and pictures, this book has proven to be extremely popular. The U.S., Canada, and some other countries sold out virtually immediately. If you just get the book, you will not have a complete collection; you will also need the Denmark, Greenland, and Canada regular sheet stamps. I also highly recommend the Canada mini sheet.

6.  NAPEX 2007 Report and Results of Drawing Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

Our booth at NAPEX 2007. (Bonnie says we bring too much stuff and Jay thinks that we never have enough and we could always fit in more.)

The NAPEX 2007 stamp show, held 1-3 June in Tysons Corner, Virginia (adjacent to Washington, DC), seemed to be a great success. The show was the venue of the Scandinavian Collectors Club annual meeting and was thus particularly well attended by collectors of Scandinavian philately.

It was great to see the show's Grand Award won for a Scandinavian-related exhibit: Mark Lorentzen's Mail from Great Britain to Denmark 1840-1880. It swept the awards, also winning the Scandinavian Collectors Club Paul Jensen Award, the Scandinavian Collectors Club National Award, and the Postal History Society Posthorn Medal. The palmares for the show can be found at: http://www.napex.org/2007show/2007awards.html

The exhibit frames were unusually well attended. Collectors were lined up at the door each day before opening time and general activity in the bourse was almost constant. All the dealers seemed pleased with the show.

Bonnie and I were delighted to visit with many old friends and to make new friends, many of whom were starting or building Scandinavian collections.

For attendees of the show we held a drawing for a $75 JSA gift certificate. The recipient was Gary A. Barranger of Virginia. Due to overwhelming positive response to the drawing we awarded a second ($40) gift certificate; the recipient is JR [name and state withheld at collector's request].

We are not currently scheduled to attend any other shows in 2007. In 2008, Bonnie and I plan to attend the APS Winter show (Charlotte, NC); the APS Summer show (Hartford, CT); the SCC's annual meeting (Chicagopex; November in Chicago, IL); and perhaps others.

7.  Special Offers: Collections & Albums -- Great Buys Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
I am constantly buying large and small Scandinavian, U.S., and Worldwide collections. If you are considering getting into a new area and would like a "starter collection" (whether small or large), let me know about your interest. Also, if you are seeking used binders or used empty albums to match what you currently have, again, let me know. In the process of buying Scandinavian collections, many of my long-time clients (or their estates) ask that I assist in selling the non-Scandinavian portion of their collections. If there is something you are looking for, just let me know. Take a look at the current listings on the web site (but if you don't see your interest listed, please inquire -- most have not been listed on the web site yet).

I guarantee your satisfaction. Each item is one of a kind; orders will be filled in order of receipt. Payment by MasterCard or Visa suggested, but I will hold items for 10 days pending receipt of your check or money order if you prefer.

#731289   Norway Huge Hoard of Used 1959-83 Definitive Stamps for Cancels and Varieties
A massive accumulation of used stamps that must have taken months to soak. Tens of thousands of stamps; total weight 3 pounds, 11 ounces. The following Scott numbers are included in various quantities: 370, 371, 372, 538, 539, 580, 541, 542, 543, 529, 540, 669, 715, 719, 721, 723, 737, 751, 752, 797, 804. Most of these numbers (and the vast majority of the total quantity of stamps) are large-size, thus increasing the possibility for readable town and village postmarks. Many pairs and strips are present. The larger portion of the stamps (2 pounds, 3 ounces) may be unpicked (it is hard to know for sure), but is offered as I received it. A smaller portion of the stamps (1 pound, 8 ounces) I know to have been reviewed for postmarks, but may still include some readable towns. To my knowledge none of the stamps have been checked for paper types or plate varieties (and varieties do exist on these issues). To give you an idea of the size of the lot, it is a stack of 9x10 inch envelopes, 6 inches high -- a LOT of stamps. Years of fun and thousands of dollars of catalog value! $169.00

#731288   Sweden 1971-1983 Official First Day Cover Collection
Large, significantly complete, collection of 126 official, unaddressed first day covers. All clean and attractive. The covers seem to all include the official insert card with information about the issues. A tremendous range of topics included and with many, many stamps engraved by SLANIA. Total JSA retail is over $250 -- there is a lot of value here! $119.00

WORLDWIDE COLLECTIONS

#731275   United Nations - New York Group of 28 1996-2001 Postally Used Covers with Lots of Stamps
28 Postally used mailers (most 8x10 or smaller size, only one larger) from the UNPA. These contained stamps and bear a single full strike of the FD cancellation for the relevant stamp issue (usually on the stamp of which it is the FD) and the rest very light neat postmark strikes. 2-7 stamps on each, but mostly 3-6 stamps. Wide variety of stamps (all currently in use at the UN at the time) representing a tremendous range of topics. 18 are registered and thus have higher values / more stamps. A considerable amount of face value (some running as high as $9.00!!!) and catalog value. Most of these stamps are scarce on postally used covers! A tremendous bargain! $49.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731276   Newfoundland and Canadian Provinces Collection 1860-1947
Collection of 116 different (105 Newfoundland plus 11 from other provinces), mint and used, on pages. Includes better values, but condition varies. There are some faults (mostly minor) and some age toning (also a damaged Newfoundland #59 not counted in catalog value), but you will also find many clean useful values which are F-VF or VF. Scott 2007 retail totals $449.80. $99.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731287   British Commonwealth 1978 QEII Coronation Anniversary Collection
This collection is in three attractive blue binders with silver imprinting. Binders #1 and #2 have matching pre-printed album pages. The stamps are in black stamp mounts, all NH VF. There is a slipcase for one of the first two binders but not the other. Binder #1: The "omnibus" issue -- the stamps that all have the same design. There were 21 countries with all the same design; includes 21 souvenir sheets and 19 strips of 3, all NH VF. Also 21 matching FDCs with strips of 3. Binder #2: The other stamp issues of the other British Commonwealth countries that used different designs. This album contains 162 individual stamps or souvenir sheets (plus, the souvenir sheets each contain from 1 to 4 stamps). All NH VF. Binder #3: Collection of 32 FDCs (maker is Fleetwood) in handsome album with additional pictures, souvenir book, information, etc. The original cost of this FDC collection (#3) was $104! It is difficult to estimate the catalog value or the original prices of all these items without taking too much time (and thus increasing the price I must ask). However, it is obvious that the total catalog value of the NH VF STAMPS in binders #1 and #2 is at least $180 (probably over $200), plus the value of the FDCs in book #1. The original selling price was probably even more than that! All offered all as one collection. $89.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731278   Hong Kong Collection 1863-1993
About 300 different plus a few blocks of 4 (used) mounted on pages. Mint and used (mostly used). All four reigns represented including useful older medium values and many recent used pictorials (some of which are rather difficult to find used). Condition varies from a few faults in early issues to vast majority F-VF or better with the later issues nearly all VF. Scott 2007 retail is $789.80. Overall a nice selection of a popular colony! $245.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731277   Straits Settlements Collection 1867-1948
About 125 different, plus a few blocks of 4 (used). Mint and used, mounted on album pages. All four reigns represented including useful medium values. Condition varies from a few with faults to mostly F-VF or better. Scott 2007 retail is $813.85, plus you will also find a few better values with revenue cancels NOT counted. Very attractive stamps. $225.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731286   Scott 2-Post 1.5-Inch Specialty Binder
Attractive used 1.5-inch, 2-post Scott Specialty binder. It is hard to find such nice used examples of this size of binder. Remnants of previous country label still present, but would be covered by the application of a new country label. $24.00
