1.  New Items on the Website Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

A large number of new items have been added to the Finland New Arrivals pages. The Stamps include a variety of nice early issues, varieties, postmarks, rare used blocks, etc. The Covers include a wide range from early pre-stamp letters, to a #2 on cover, to modern machine stamps on cover. The Diverse page includes lots of fun items: railway stamps on documents, shipping company stamps, labels, reprints, proofs, etc.

The Iceland Gallery pages now have some more high-quality stamps.

Some nice items have been added to the Denmark Gallery pages.

The Norway Tonsberg Locals page includes some new items. Tonsberg's issues picture whales among other topics.

New pages have been added for Slania-Engraved Sweden Revenues. Whether you collect Slania or Swedish Revenues in general, you will want to see these very scarce stamps. (Same listings in either section.)

A wide range of British Colonies Stamps have been added, including from the countries: Ascension, Basutoland, Bechuanaland, Bechuanaland Protectorate, British Central Africa, British East Africa, Canada, Cocos Island, Fiji, Jamaica, New Guinea, Norfolk Island, Papua New Guinea, Sierra Leone, Somaliland Protectorate, Swaziland, Tanganyika, Transvaal, Uganda, and Zanzibar. Take a look at the Worldwide Table of Contents for those and other countries.

2.  The New Facit 2008 Scandinavian Specialized Catalog Coming Soon Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

I received news a few days ago that the Facit Scandinavia Specialized 2008 Catalogs have landed on U.S. shores and would arrive here in a very few days. Since then there seems to have been an unexplained delay and my attempts to reach the person handling the shipment have not been successful. I do not yet have the catalogs in hand, but I still expect them to arrive soon.

If you have already reserved your Facit Catalog, it will be sent immediately upon arrival.

If you wish to reserve your copy, please do so now from the catalogs page.

The information on the catalog's content is preliminary; that web page's catalog content information will be updated when the catalogs actually arrive here.

It has been a while since we have had to increase the price of the Facit Catalog. However, our cost has risen each year. Furthermore, in the last year, the U.S. Dollar has significantly declined in value, raising our cost roughly another 20%. Add to that tremendously increased shipping costs; it now costs us approximately $9 each in shipping to get the book.

Despite all of this, I feel it is important to make the Facit Catalog, the primary Scandinavian specialized reference catalog, easily available at a reasonable price. I also wish to recognize and reward the many clients who also regularly purchase stamps and other items from us.

The bottom line is that the Facit is now $69, plus shipping ($3 by media mail in the U.S.). HOWEVER, THE CATALOG WILL COME WITH A $10 COUPON that is usable on any* OTHER purchase of at least $50. *The only exclusions are purchases of Stender Album products and New Issue Service payments. The coupon can be used toward all other purchase of $50 or more.

3.  Stamp Shows in Charlotte, North Carolina Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

If you live within driving distance of, or will be visiting, Charlotte, North Carolina, see us at one or more of three shows coming up over the next few months.

Take a look at our stamp show schedule for more details, links, etc.

November 3-4, 2007: CARPEX 2007.

January 11-13, 2008: APS AmeriStamp Expo "Winter Show". (These are the new dates.) This is a "real, big" show with about 85 dealers and post offices; also with extensive exhibits. This will probably the largest show in the Southeastern U.S. for many years to come. Plan to attend.

July 25-27, 2008: CHARPEX 2008.

Complete information, more pictures, and ordering...
Most people who have been involved with Scandinavian (or Polish) philately for any length of time need no introduction to the stamp engraving of Czeslaw Slania. To say that Slania was a "master" of his art is an understatement. He set the standard for his time and by doing so raised the level of work of many stamp engravers. This in turn has brought many people into stamp collecting and particularly into collecting beautifully engraved Scandinavian stamps.

In 2000 Slania completed his 1000th "stamp" engraving. While this number seems like a lot, it only represents one part of Slania's prolific output. It must be remembered that each engraving can take weeks or even months, so 1000 is a lot of time. Furthermore, this quantity does not include the many "special" stamps (such as test stamps, revenue stamps, postal savings stamps, etc.) Slania engraved, nor does it include his work on banknotes of many countries or his many private works including stamp-sized labels and larger engraved artwork. When you "do the math", 1000 regular stamps becomes a huge achievement and a total record that may never be surpassed.

To celebrate the occasion of Slania's 1000th "stamp" engraving Sweden issued what may be (so I have been told) the world's largest stamp. Contained in a souvenir sheet, it has to be seen to be believed. Furthermore, a special, official pack was offered; it includes the NH VF souvenir sheet, the official FDC, and an official blackprint that was only available in the pack. The blackprint shows only the engraved portions of the design and really lets you see the detail of the engraving. The pack itself pictures Slania and provides related information.

For a short time, I am able to offer a limited quantity of the pack, including the blackprint at a special price of only $48.00.

5.  Special Offers: Collections & Albums -- Great Buys Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

I am constantly buying large and small Scandinavian, U.S., and Worldwide collections. If you are considering getting into a new area and would like a "starter collection" (whether small or large), let me know about your interest. Also, if you are seeking used binders or used empty albums to match what you currently have, again, let me know. In the process of buying Scandinavian collections, many of my long-time clients (or their estates) ask that I assist in selling the non-Scandinavian portion of their collections. If there is something you are looking for, just let me know. Take a look at the current listings on the web site (but if you don't see your interest listed, please inquire -- most have not been listed on the web site yet).

I guarantee your satisfaction. Each item is one of a kind; orders will be filled in order of receipt. Payment by MasterCard or Visa suggested, but I will hold items for 10 days pending receipt of your check or money order if you prefer.

#731382   Aland Collection 1984-2002 NH VF on Scott Pages
Fresh and neat substantially complete collection of NH VF stamps, all in mounts, on like-new Scott pages through 2002. JSA individual retail is $285! A really great start for your Aland collection at a significant savings! $215.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731383   Finland Collection 1860-1947 on Scott Pages
Very good coverage of mostly used stamps from 1860-1947, with neatly installed black mounts in virtually every spot whether there is a stamp present or not (saving you a lot of work and expense). The Scott 2008 value of issues from Scott #4-63 is about $847, but there is the usual mixed quality of the era. From 1901-1947, the Scott value is about $241 with the vast majority being F-VF or VF. Total Scott value is thus about $1088! The Scott pages are fresh and clean. This is a great, inexpensive way to get started with early Finland. $219.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731384   Finland Mint Collection 1948-1984 on Scott Pages
Good coverage, perhaps 50-60% complete, of mint lightly hinged stamps from 1948 through 1984, with neatly installed black mounts in virtually every spot whether there is a stamp present or not (saving you a lot of work and expense). Condition is excellent with nearly ever stamp VF. Good range of commemoratives and regular issues, but no back-of-book stamps. The Scott 2008 retail value is about $327! The Scott pages are fresh and clean. I do not often have such a nice, neat collection of this era. $119.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731385   Finland NH Collection 1985-2002 on Scott Pages
Excellent coverage, probably about 85% complete, of NH stamps from 1985 through 2002, with neatly installed black mounts in virtually every spot whether there is a stamp present or not (saving you a lot of work and great expense, especially in this era). There are a total of about 259 different stamps, panes, and souvenir sheets (which means lots more stamps because panes and s/s often contain quite a few different stamps). Condition appears to be perfect with every stamp VF or better! Good range of commemoratives and regular issues, but no back-of-book stamps. The JSA individual is about $679 -- there is a lot of value here! The Scott pages are fresh and clean in like-new condition. I do not often have such a nice, neat collection of this era. $499.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731386   Finland Collection Back-Of-Book 1922-1992 on Scott Pages
Excellent coverage of the semi-postals, perhaps 90% complete, with most airs and military stamps. Mixed mint (probably mostly hinged, but might be some NH) and used. Includes a lot of used semi-postals that can be hard to find used. The condition generally looks very good with virtually all stamps at least F-VF or VF. Neatly installed black mounts are in virtually every spot whether there is a stamp present or not (saving you a lot of work and expense). The Scott 2008 retail is about $382, with virtually all of that in the semi-postals of course. The Scott pages are fresh and clean. This is a great way to get started on this area. $149.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731394   Iceland Collection 1876-2002 on Scott Pages
A nice collection ranging from the earlies right up into 2002, on fresh and clean Scott pages. Black stamp mounts have already been installed in most spaces whether or not stamps are present, thus saving you a tremendous amount of time and expense. The earliest issues are in the usual mixed quality with Used stamps up to about 1945. From 1945 to about 1982, most stamps appear to be Mint hinged and in uniformly VF quality. From 1983 to 2002, the stamps are uniformly NH VF! While only a few Semi-Postals and Airmails are present, the Officials section is well filled, mostly used, in the usual mixed quality for these issues. The Scott 2008 retail catalog value is about 1876-1982 $345; 1983-2002 (NH section) $426; and Back of Book $620; with a grand total of about $1373! This is an attractive collection with a lot of value and would make a super start for your new Iceland collection. $399.00
Order Online  (Will open a new window; the new window may be under current window.)

#731387   Norway Collection 1856-1980 on Scott Pages
A well-filled collection of about 728 different stamps with lots of value. The vast majority of stamps are used, but there are a few mint and a very few both mint and used. Includes "everything": commemoratives, definitives, semi-postals, officials, and postage dues. The first two pages (1856-1908) are well-filled and have a Scott 2008 retail catalog value of about just over $1200, but has the usual mixed condition common for these issues. From 1909-1980 the Scott value is about $528 and the Back-Of-Book stamps have a Scott value of about $166; these last two portions appear to generally be in quite good condition with virtually all F-VF or VF. The used stamps generally appear to have been selected with care for light, attractive cancels. There is page after page of complete sets; this is NOT a picked-over remainder that has just a smattering of stamps. The stamps are lightly hinged (mostly good, very peelable hinges) and the Scott pages are fresh and clean. This is a super start for your Norwegian collection with a total Scott value of over about $1890!!! $399.00
