Scott #28 [1877 3 öre brown Ringtype, Perforation 13] (F-VF) on 15 April 1878 PRINTED MATTER folded cover with contents, from GÖTEBORG to Bollsta (nowadays usually Bollstabruk), Nyland. (Both are towns next to each other; Bollstabruk did not get a post office until 12 December 1893; before then their mail was handled by the Nyland post office.) The PRINTED contents are a "prices current" (supplier prices in Bruxelles, Belgium) of industrial supplies: machine belts and hoses. The sender handstamp lists the sender city as "Gothembourg", which is a fairly rarely seen spelling (on covers) as that was a French localized spelling -- this relates to the sender having a lot of business connections with French-speaking companies in Belgium. The right side of the cover bears filing system text; at this time it was typical for many businesses to file letters, still folded, vertically with the contents description at the top. Though a completely domestic letter, this is a great example of the extensive commercial interaction -- even in a small Swedish village that did not even have its own post office yet -- with other European countries.

Scott #33 [1877 20 öre orange Ringtype, Perforation 13] (Average-Fine) on 5 March 1883 cover FRONT-ONLY, to Bristol, R.I. Rhode Island, USA, and forwarded to the small town (population in 1883 was about 700 to 800 people) of Sebago, Maine. The letter was addressed to MRS. Ramon Guiteras; her husband was of Spanish-Cuban ancestry. Her son, also named Ramon Guiteras (he never married so we know the letter was not addressed to his wife), was born in Bristol, Rhode Island, and became a famous and extremely important early urologist, and was the "most prominent Rhode Islander of Latin American heritage at the turn of the 20th century". There is an interesting website about Dr. Ramon Guiteras (the son of the addressee). While this is only a cover-front, it is still an important Swedish and Rhode Island postal history item. A "FORWARDED" marking was applied at Bristol, Rhode Island -- likely a fairly scarce marking that would be welcomed in any Rhode Island postal history collection. The Cuban connection and the once-removed urology connection also make this an interesting item for a thematic collection. The Facit Postal X value for this stamp solo used on a (full) cover to the U.S. is SEK 600.

35 [1877 30 öre Ringtype Perf 13] (F-VF) THREE-STRIP on 29 August 1884 complete parcel card (adresskort) from GEFLE to Stockholm with "STOCKHOLM / PAKET / STA / DEN" receiver. The form is #239, print date November 1877. This is unusual late usage of an earlier form that used the older weight system in "skalpund". The card is totally complete with the usual creases (including through one stamp) and is in excellent condition for one of these. Very interesting and attractive; complete cards are scarce.

35 Brown [1877 30 öre Ringtype Perf 13] (VF) on 1883 parcel card (adresskort) without the coupon part, from ESKILSTUNA to Stockholm. [Not So Fun Fact: Eskilstuna was named for the medieval English monk Saint Eskil who set up base there to try to convert the local population to Christianity. This did not work out so well when the people in a neighboring town stoned him to death for his efforts.]
