Finland 1888 25 penni 4-Numeral Ultramarine postal stationery envelope, Norma 2002 #25III or Lape 2012 #31III [1886 Laid Paper with large "EXPRESS" Watermark), used 16 September 1888 TO SWEDEN. Used VF+ appearance, though missing a small part of the lower left corner. Sent to Deje, Sweden. It could have been sent uncanceled from mainland Finland, or uncanceled from Åland, or mailed aboard a ship making the crossing. Upon arrival in Stockholm, it was canceled with the incoming ship mail "STOCKHOLM K.E." postmark and with a Superb strike of the elongated-oval "Från FINLAND." [From FINLAND] handstamp. The reverse bears a "STOCKHOLM C.10." transit postmark of the same date. This postal stationery envelope itself is very scarce with a 2002 Norma catalog value of 100 Euros and a 2012 Lape value of 100 Euros, but that value is for a normal example with a normal Finnish cancellation -- and that is a value that would be easily attained for a normal example. This example is much scarcer INCOMING SHIP MAIL; very beautiful with the "foreign" cancellation and ship mail marking. ACTUAL item. |
