1948 Perforation 11 Christmas Seal [Sheaf of Grain and Birds] (VF) tied by 19 December 1948 STOCKHOLM machine postmark with Scott #393, 399 [King 25 öre violet coil and 10 öre green booklet single] (25 damaged, 10 VF) on neat cover to the U.S. A blue airmail label was affixed to the cover despite inadequate postage; the post office in Sweden marked the label out with a black 2-bar handstamp. The cover was treated in this way because there was no return address (there is nothing on the reverse) from which to request additional postage before onward transmission. Upon arrival in the U.S. the cover was marked with a magenta handstamp "NOT IN THE AIR MAILS". A very attractive tied-on use of the Christmas seal and an even more interesting demonstration of postal regulations and practices in both countries. ACTUAL item. |

Back top flap missing and slightly roughly opened. Attractive and quite unusual for such covers to be sent to other countries (seals were not allowed to be on the front of the covers, but it was especially discouraged to other countries).
