2 [1856 10 kop Oval] (square cut, three huge margins) on 1858 complete folded cover, with contents, from ÅBO to JACKOBSTAD. The stamp is pen canceled as usual, with the Åbo high-box dated postmark to the side. The stamp is not tied to the cover, but Åbo pen cancels were typically "pre-cancels" to help speed the postal clerks work. This is a typical Åbo cover for the period; years ago it was examined by expert Rolf Gummesson who stated that it was genuine and belonged on the cover. The stamp design just touches at right and at that point shows an interesting printing variety in which there is a break in the frame line (this is NOT a defect in the stamp). The cover spent many years in a stamp mount that shrunk causing some wrinkling; this could certainly be flattened out with care. The contents are interesting and were obviously printed in England (in English) by a ship and shipping management company and sent in bulk to Finland where they were mailed by the local agent of the company. Facit 2007 value SEK 8000 = $1200 for pen canceled stamp on cover; even off-cover the most common color of the stamp is listed at SEK 3500 = $525! Very attractive item at a very reasonable price.
