Scott #M8, Facit #F8 [1963 Military Stamp] XF centered, on cover from HANGÖ / HANKO with 3 October 1963 proper town cancellation and with proper military receiving cancellation of Field Post #5 on reverse. These stamps were used for mail TO soldiers on training maneuvers. Only 85,552 stamps were distributed. The stamps were valid from 26 September through 5 October, though 4-5 October only if posted in a letterbox. Each soldier received five stamps which were to be given to people who would send mail TO the soldier. They were valid for normal letters up to 20 grams; heavier letters required additional normal postage. Packages required normal stamps. (Letters FROM soldiers was postage free if they bore a boxed "KENTTÄPOSTIA" military mail handstamp.) This cover was canceled on the last day of "normal" mailing (i.e. mailed at a post office or from a home, NOT in a letter box -- letter box mail was valid also on 4-5 October). The envelope is very neat and tidy. M8 covers are often on larger envelopes or are not attractive; this example is very nice. This example is priced only slightly more than a single used stamp!
