1977 March 24 stampless cover with Superb violet "UNITED NATIONS / EMERGENCY FORCE" postmark from a Finnish member of the United Nations "Truce Supervision Organization" (aka UNTSO) and utilizing an official small-size envelope of that organization. [For background information see the Wikipedia page for that organization and the page for "United Nations Emergency Force II".] Addressed to an individual in Helsinki; sent to Finland by "Kapt. T. Hankaniemi / FINBATT / UNEF / OGS - Cairo / 00100 H:ki 10". (H:ki is an abbreviation for Helsinki; the postcode is the official address for mail to and from this UN operation.) UNTSO operated at several locations as a buffer between Israel and surrounding countries. This cover is especially interesting because it both is an official small-size envelope (not often seen) and the return address places the sender address in Cairo, which means that he was likely either in the Cairo office or in the Sinai desert. Outstanding quality. While Swedish UN Forces mail is more often seen, in my experience, the Finnish UN Forces mail is much, much scarcer.

1980 October 13 stampless cover with Superb violet "UNITED NATIONS / EMERGENCY FORCE" postmark from a Finnish member of the United Nations "FINBATT UNDOF / GOLAN HEIGHTS" operation (Finnish Battalion, United Nations Disengagement Observer Force -- [see Wikipedia page of the latter for background information]), utilizing a "business size" official envelope of that organization at GOLAN HEIGHTS. Addressed to an individual in Dragsvik, Finland, who has the same last name and is likely related to the sender of another 1977 Finnish UN Forces cover, but then from Cairo "Kapt. T. Hankaniemi / FINBATT / UNEF / OGS - Cairo / 00100 H:ki 10"). No markings or text on backside. FINBATT UNDOF operated in the Golan Heights from March 1979 to December 1993. This cover is especially interesting because it is an official envelope that states the specific operating area (Golan Heights) of this part of the UNDOF operation. One could consider such a cover to also be part of the postal history of both Syrian territory and Israeli territory. Outstanding quality. While Swedish UN Forces mail is more often seen, in my experience, the Finnish UN Forces mail is much, much scarcer.

1981 April 26 stampless AEROGRAM with Superb violet "UNITED NATIONS / EMERGENCY FORCE" postmark from a Finnish member of the United Nations "FINBATT UNDOF / GOLAN HEIGHTS" operation (Finnish Battalion, United Nations Disengagement Observer Force -- [see Wikipedia page of the latter for background information]), utilizing a generic UN forces aerogram form. Addressed to an individual in Dragsvik, Finland, with a return address of "M. Luokkakalic / EHK / FINBATT / UNDOF / PL 51 / 00011 HKI 100" (the Helsinki address for mail from / to this unit). Google AI says: ["EHK" typically stands for Erillinen Huoltokomppania (Finnish for Separate Maintenance Company); In the FINBATT organization, PL 51 was the designation for the 1st Platoon of the 1st Company. This platoon was stationed at Position 51, a United Nations outpost located on the Mount Hermon massif in the northern sector of the Golan Heights.] EXTENSIVE HANDWRITTEN MESSAGE (in Finnish). No markings or text on backside. FINBATT UNDOF operated in the Golan Heights from March 1979 to December 1993. This cover is especially interesting because it includes the complete message and the sender information includes specific unit information (which is often not present) that places the unit in the specific operating area (Golan Heights) of this part of the UNDOF operation. One could consider such a cover to also be part of the postal history of both Syrian territory and Israeli territory. Outstanding quality. While Swedish UN Forces mail is more often seen, in my experience, the Finnish UN Forces mail is much, much scarcer.
