Scott #3, Facit #3bv2, AFA #3 Plate I Position 53, Light Greenish Blue [1855 2 sk blue, Dotted Spandrels] Mint, Original Gum, Hinge Remnant, with F-VF centering: 2 large margins, one small margin, and one touching along the right side. Nice light greenish blue color and attractive appearance. AFA-listed and Facit-list PLATE VARIETY only from Plate I, Position 53 (one out of every 200 stamps): "2" with diagonal white line through it making it look more like an "8". Facit does not price any of the plate varieties of this stamp in Mint condition. The plate varieties of this stamp are priced by AFA, in both Mint and Used condition, but with unrealistically low premiums that are the same for all the varieties, whether major or minor. This variety is much more "important" than the all other varieties because it changes the appearance of the denomination! This variety is remarkably scarce only existing on 200th of the total printing and even scarcer if one divides them up by the three major color differences. A nice looking example of the stamp and an outstanding showing of the variety. ACTUAL item. |

3 [2 sk square, blue] Used VF with even margins all around. Clear print with remarkably neat and small corner cancellation. Corner cancels are exception on the early "square" stamps as postal clerks were explicitly instructed to cancel in the middle of the stamp. ACTUAL item. |
