Scott #35 Light Green, Printing 3 [1882 (June 1883 printing) 5 øre Arms with Small Corner Numerals] Used with F-VF centering, but with a thin and one short perforation tooth (hidden by the cancellation). Almost perfectly centered (Superb) "KJØBENHAVN / KB" single-ring cancellation. (This specific cancellation style never included a year date.) This cancellation style is actively collected -- nicely struck examples are challenging to find. The paper of the "Small Corner Numerals" stamps is extremely thin, thus easily damaged and not many have survived without defects. A very attractive-looking example of a scarce stamp, at a great price. Otherwise, this centering with this wonderful postmark quality would be $110!

39a, Facit #51, AFA #35x [1885 (Print 6, 1888) 10 øre Arms with SMALL Corner Numerals, Perf 14 x 13.5] Used with F-VF centering and neat "(KØBE)NHAVN G" cancellation. This error came about when three reserve cliches from the 1882 postal card issue were accidentally placed among the cliches for printing stamps. The three error cliches only exist from sheet positions 94, 96, and 97, all only in Printing 6. Interestingly, Scott and AFA list this stamp as varieties of the large corner numeral issues, however Facit lists it with the 5 and 20 øre small corner numeral stamps (Scott #35 and 37), considering it a "major" stamp, not a variety. Due to the plate layout vs the cliche size, and how the printers registered the perforations (selected a place on the sheet where the stamps would be well centered), the bottom row -- where all these come from -- is virtually always only Fine centered or worse. This example is F-VF centered, which is actually quite a bit nicer than usual for this "rare" item. A "rare" stamp that is missing from virtually all collections of Denmark. Facit 2024 value SEK 6,500 (about $650 1/2024); AFA 2023 value is DKK 4,500 (about $675 1/2024). An outstanding example of a stamp that is seldom offered. This is the first Used example that I have been able to offer in many years. This stamp is accompanied by a Jay Smith color image certificate with lifetime guarantee (further details of the guarantee are available). [C#02852-01-007]

39c PAIR Containing Scott #39a. Facit #51v2, AFA #35x [1885 (Print 6, 1888) 10 øre Arms with SMALL Corner Numerals, Perf 14 x 13.5] Mint hinged with Just-Fine centering. Original gum, slightly disturbed, with hinge remnant in place to help stabilize the pair. Horizontal PAIR of Scott #39 and #39a (thus Scott #39c pair). The #39a, small corner numerals stamp, is on the right, and is from plate position 96. This pair is INTACT, but with some perforation separation, with the remaining intact perforations reinforced by a hinge remnant. This error came about when three reserve cliches from the 1882 postal card issue were accidentally placed among the cliches for printing stamps. The three error cliches exist from sheet positions 94, 96, and 97, all only in Printing 6. The three positions can be discerned by small details in the printing impression and by the small irregularities in the perforation teeth. The crisp paper and the fine, large-hole perforations result in pairs / multiples being fragile, with the consequence that most pairs have fallen apart many a very long time ago. Interestingly, Scott and AFA list this stamp as varieties of the large corner numeral issues, however Facit lists it with the 5 and 20 øre small corner numeral stamps (Scott #35 and 37). Due to the plate layout vs the cliche size, and how the printers registered the perforations (selected a place on the sheet where the stamps would be well centered), the bottom row -- where all these come from -- is virtually always only Fine centered or worse. This example is Just Fine centered, which is actually typical for this item. The perforations of the left stamp (normal 39) barely clear the design, but the right stamp (the 39a variety) is Fine with perforations completely clearing the design. A "rare" item that is missing from virtually all collections of Denmark. Facit 2024 value SEK 5000 (about $500 10/2023); AFA 2023 value is DKK 4000 (about $600 10/2023); and Scott 2023 value is $600. This pair is much scarcer than those catalog values would suggest. Accompanied by a Jay Smith certificate with "lifetime" guarantee.

43 variety, AFA 34B variety, Facit 58a variety [1895 5 øre Arms, Perf 12.75, Small Crown Watermark] Used with Fine centering and fully dated 6 October 1896 cancellation. Has very clear plate variety not listed in the major catalogs: "White spot to right of N of DANMARK". Other, catalog-listed, plate varieties on this stamp have a catalog value of DKK 150. An interesting and obvious variety -- it would be fun to find more examples on different printings (color shades) of this stamp.

48, Identified as Printing 22 (numbered from first printing of design) in beautiful Used VF+ 8-BLOCK with clear ODENSE 1899 cancellations. The AFA 2017 (most recent edition) BLOCK Catalog lists a single used 4-block at DKK 500 = US$75 (9/2024), but an 8-block is many, many times scarcer than two four blocks. Sensibly, proactively reinforced. Wonderful quality!

54 GROUP OF 5 COLORS [1902 15 øre Arms] Used with VF-XF centering, an unusual group of five different colors. This stamp had nine printings, but these five colors nicely book-end the range of colors. This is not a "scarce" stamp, but finding nicely centered examples is surprising difficult and especially in a range of colors.

54 [1902 15 øre Arms] Used with VF centering and an XF-Superb NYBORG 8 May 1905 bridge-type cancellation (Swiss style because of the vertical bars). Because this stamp was issued for and mostly saw use on either parcel cards or as the registry fee on registered letters, they tend to have heavy and poorly centered cancellations. Examples of this stamp with such a neat and well-centered cancellation are remarkably scarce compared to other stamps of the same time period.
